Chain and Sprocket Mismatch

I guess I should elaborate a little... the sprocket will be ~1.6mm wider than the gap between the side plates of the chain. If you tried it anyway, the chain would briefly ride around the outside of the sprockets... then since the chain isn't being engaged by the sprockets fully, if you tried to apply power to it there would probably be some major chain slipping happening. The best case scenario would be the chain and the sprockets both being destroyed.

Thanks, makes sense. I realized over the weekend that my latest acquisition for some reason has this combo.

I needed to replace everything anyway so I ordered a new chain/sprocket set from Pete's.

And worst case is the chain breaks and balls up between the countershaft sprocket and the engine case, putting a hole in it.$$$$$$
Or it breaks in 130 traffic on the 401.

you mean like it did on my old 750F? punched a hole in the cases.
