New Vehicle Inspection Centre requirements etc
1.Costs to Shop owners:
·Shops must have $3million in Liabilty insurance (most had $2)
·Shops must have $200,000 vehicle damage insurance (how may 200k bikes will we see!?!??!)
·Shops must have the required approved tools to do inspections.
·All shops MUST use tablets supplied/purchased through the Drive On program for carrying out and submitting Inspections.
The total of these new costs can be anywhere from $2,000 to $3,500. Yearly insurance premiums wil typically DOUBLE under these requirements.
2. New inspection requirements/issues:
·ALL drum brake wheels must be removed for inspection/measurement/photographing
·All discs and pads must be measured and photographed
·All vehicles must have vehicle compliance lables
·All vehicles must have legible serial numbers
·All vehicles must have and meet the standards of all the inspection categories. There is no clear answer re things like mirrors, lights, brake componants that some older bikes never came with. So how does one enter the required information needed to submit the completed inspection?
·Who 'on the other end' of the submitted report can make a judgement call when there is no clear standard available such as brake disc thickness on an older bike?
Bottom line: the extra time and expense required to perform an inspection will double or triple.
A lot of Shops have had enough and are NOT going to join in. This means the few who do will NEVER be able to keep up with demand. So be prepared to spend a LOT more money and wait weeks to get a Cert done starting this Spring of 2025
