Cell Phone Company Help

Trying to figure out who I should go with, with bell now but I am not to satisfied with their service. Thinking of Rogers, Fido, or Koodo. I've been with the same flip phone for 6 years and it's just time to upgrade because what I'm paying for it is so not worth it, +the phone is done pretty much. I'll be going with the Iphone 4, (used my brothers since he was away on vacation 2 months and I like it) was patiently waiting and now I'll be going with it...

Questions:

What company are you with, thoughts and if you don't mind, how much and what your plan is like.

Do you need a data plan? (wifi at home and school and that pretty much where I'll be so I don't want a data plan) - but do they make you pay for it anyway?

If my hometown is Mississauga and now 90% of the time in St. Catharines, do I need to change my local area to be St. Catharines so long distance charges wouldn't apply if I contacted someone in St. Catharines (how dose this work, should I change it)

What have you been able to haggle the companies to give you or change? (instead of weekends starting at 8/9pm, were you able to get 5or7pm without paying for it, any phone cases, chargers, etc)

Do you pay the 911 charge?

Help appreciated :happy3:

They are all the same. They are all crap!!!

I have the Iphone4 with bell..never really had any issues other than cust. service. I also have a Blackberry with rogers....not really any issues there either..other than cust. service.. and wife has been with telus for as long as I can remember....she's looking to switch...not happy with coverage she is getting...but nothing to sue them over  .... I think they know that if you leave one, you'll go with the other and then realize they are no better and end up with whomever has the best deal at the time youre looking to upgrade your phone...

It depends on too many factors to give a straight recommendation. I'm with Chatr (a subsidiary of Rogers) and was with Fido (another subsidiary of Rogers) for years. $25/month gets me unlimited everything except data that I don't feel like paying for anyway. No plans, no contracts and I don't need the phones they are pushing (it's stupid to choose the cell company based on how cheap/good their phones are).

I evaluate my choice every couple of years or so even when I'm happy with the service. It's easy enough to vote with your wallet now that you can keep your phone number regardless of the provider.

just call, ask to be transferred to the retention dept. and just complain and tell them your are going to cancel. you'd be surprised how much they will do sometimes to keep you as a customer. if that doesn't work call back and talk to someone else...they might be a little more willing to go that extra step to help you out. the key is to talk to the retention dept.

Just be aware you will be paying through the nose to get a Iphone 4 without the data plan. Not sure of the exact numbers but to buy the phone with no contract is $600 (or more). put it on a 3 year cell contract and it drops $150. Add a 3 year data plan and your dropping another $300+ so your looking at $100-150 for the phone. These numbers may change but bottom line... increase your monthly payout... cost of the phone goes down. this is of course if they will sell a IPhone 4 without a data plan.

Your better off to buy a 3GS and just put it on a cell plan, use WiFi for internet and mail as you suggested. Have Done this for both my daughters as I'm too cheap to pay for data, if they want data they can get a job and pay for it.

As for the providers... I have learned that BELL and Rogers are the same, have heard horour stories about both, I have been lucky and no major problems.
