Canadian Tire: $1639.31 OTD

Belle Tire in Detroit MI : $679.82 landed after declaring and paying HST.

WTF?

Wow thats a massive diff...I've never bought tires at CT as i find their prices out to lunch. I've always bought my tires at Simply Tire as I find their prices have always been comparable to US pricing and I've always had great service.

Michelin changed their prices this year so that the Canadian market is more aligned with the U.S.

Goodyear hasn't...

Never owned a GoodYear tire I liked, and I've tried all kinds. On cars and trucks.

when you have a look at tirerack.com you get a pretty good idea that even with manufacturers claiming balanced pricing , there are some big swings between CDN and US pricing.

Aftermarket parts SUCK in Canada. I need a transmission for my project car. What would cost some dude $2200 in buffalo will cost me at least $4000.
We have no jegs or summit in Canada so all of my smaller stuff I pay all the shipping charges on, and they usually only ship UPS so you get brokerage fees etc.
I need a rear spoiler. Can't even get it shipped to Canada from the only place that makes a good replica. Sucks being a car guy here.

I posted this before. I ordered from TIRES.COM a set of 18 inch rims and tires. It was a special order since they don't really ship to Canada.
Total cost with shipping and customs came to $1000 shipped from California! If I got the same tires and rims here it would easily be over $2500. Since then I order from TireRack.com for all my tires.

Never buy tires from Canada!

So have things sent to one of the mail handlers just over the border. they are cheap, most ususally charge only $5 per shipment. I have a buddy that runs a business just across from Queenston. he has the abiltiy to receive parcels, skids, and can even manage automobiles,as he has a compound. http://www.parceldonkeyusa.com/

alternatively if you need it shipped here and have to use UPS, have it shipped by Air rather then ground. It isn't as cheap as ground, but they waive the brokerage which is usually stupid expensive. In the end you are better off.

Just had a look on my GY dealer acct and it shows that tire being discontinued so i'm going to assume the retailer in the States is going off the closeout price and CT is going off the original price they have in their system. You can also note the approx 15% markup that is applied to the OG price showing there is really not a lot of money in tires. As a retailer we try to be up front with people to show them not everyone in the industry is out to gouge them.

Canadian Tire is not exactly the cheapest place so you have to compare apples to apples. Nevertheless, yes prices south of the border are roughly 20-30% lower on average.

Goodyear tires go on sale a lot as they have problems getting rid of their stock. The only reason this company even exists is because of O.E. fitments, mainly for American manufacturers.

As far as winter tires are concerned - stick with Michelin, Bridgestone or Nokian.

Dunlop Ultra Grip Winter (Studded) < Pirelli Winter Carving Edge (studded) < (all non studded)Dunlop Ice Ultra Grip WRT <Michelin X-Ice Xi3 < Bridgestone Blizzaks WS70 < Continental Extreme winter contact (all non studded)

Studded tires are illegal for Southern Ontario residents.

I am not all that familiar with Continental but X-ice 3 and WS-70 would definitely be in my top 3.

What complicates ratings even more is the designated purpose of a winter tire. Some are geared more towards ice, some snow. Some are designed for SUVs and light trucks, some for smaller cars. Some are performance tires, some regular - rated T or lower.
