Hi,

I'm planning to do an oil change for my CBR600rr 2014. I bought it with 500 km on it and Dealer said he did oil change on it, which I'm just having doubts on...
Now I have 2600 KM on it. I'm thinking of doing another oil change. I know it's not due but for my satisfaction I want to do it.

I looked up the manual for the filter number but was not able to find it. Also not sure what kind of oil to use.

As per the manual the Oil should be the following:
JASO T 903 Standard: MA
SAE standard: 10w30
API Classification: SG or higher

I read quite a few forums and was not able to find much on newer CBRs what kind of oil is good conventional or synthetic ...
So 2 things..should I use Honda filter and Oil or Should I goto aftermarket brands like bosch, wix, purolator etc etc...any thoughts
Any guidence would be greatly appreciated..

Your Honda OEM stock oil filter is TOYO ROKI brand and the part# is 15410-MFJ-D01 and is available for around $10 from Honda dealers.

The K&N part number for your oil filter is called KN-204. You can usually use that number to cross reference oil filters from other companies. The brands and models that are shown to be compatible with your bike: http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/K-N/KN-204

I would recommend the Amsoil EA15K12 car oil filter (or if height clearance isn't an issue then run the EA15K13) along with full synthetic Amsoil MCF 10w40 motorcycle oil. If you wanted to be less freaky you could use the Amsoil EAOM103 motorcycle oil filter which is an identical spec direct replacement filter for your OEM filter. Just look up your postal code on Amsoil's site and start calling people until you get someone or someone calls you back. Only deal with a dealer that regularly stocks MCF motorcycle oil (99% of them will have EA15K12 and EA15K13 oil filters in stock, not so much EAOM103): http://www.amsoil.com/locator/map.aspx?page=/locator/index.aspx

Purolator PureOne filters are very nice too, not their made in china garbage motorcycle line of filters though. The Purolator PureOne car filter for your bike would be PL14612 or if height isn't an issue then the absolute monster capacity filter PL14610.

If using a larger filter (EA15K13 and especially with PL14610) remember that you'll have to put in more than the recommended amount of oil listed in your manual/on the crankcase.

Those are the only two filters (as well as OEM of course) I would recommend. Read some of the horror stories on Bob the oil guy for reasons why.

Wix makes filters for amsoil. We ( brother&myself) cut one open, filter material is thin and the cloth wasn't even completely wrapped around. Their was an open gap inside. That cured me of ever using one. I love their oil not their filters.

Thank you ; Mikey Moto, Blue Streak Racing, JT Sprockets, HiFlo Filters, Cycle Pro, Dyno-Jet. For your help and support.

Were you using the EAOM line of motorcycle amsoil filters? Maybe they are made differently, just like Purolator's line of garbage motorcycle filters. I've cut open all of mine that I use on my bikes (7 so far, EA15K13 car filters) and they have been absolutely flawless inside, super thick filter material that's 22ft long when unwrapped, flawlessly glued to top and bottom caps, etc.

k+n has failed me and I'm not the only one.

Use oem.

OEM best yes, wish they had head on the end for safety wire
Good luck today at bogie.

**** really? How?

and yeah i like using them too because of the drilled nut on them.

I used to use K&N filters and Amsoil oil on the car. Read K&N has higher flow but less filtration, so I switched to NAPA Gold (Wix) based on good reviews. Did that for years, and recently started using Amosil filters since I was able to source them. I find it hard to believe Amsoil filters are 'bad'...only filters I've ever read enough to stay away from are the crap Fram filters sold by Canadian Tire and the like.

As for oil change interval, why are you changing after 2100km? You know you can go a LOT longer/further than that. The lowest I've heard most change at seems to be around 5000km, and personally I typically do it between 5,000-10,000km, minimum once a year, as at least the CBR650F recommends a change on dealer oil (non synthetic) every 12,000km. I figure the newer CBR600RR would be around the same.

O-ring popped out and filled my bellypan with oil. It was fun trying to turn at the end of the straight at Shannonville.

As I said before i wanted to do it for my own mental satisfaction...I know it's not due but I wanted to get hands on with the bike ...now i have the part numbers and etc and some direction I think i know where to order it from :)
