Carbs?

Hey guys, just have a question about carbs. My dad and I are both NOT really too sure about many parts on a bike so we are not to sure how it works lol. My bike is giving me troubles (Yet again..) but I am not too sure what the problem is. The bike started pretty much like, studdering or chugging if I'd say, meaning during a ride on my way home the bike would take off then start loosing power randomly making the bike chug? "Speed up, chug, chug, chug, speed up, chug, chug" its hard to explain exactly in text but I hope you inderstand lol. Now my bike wont start but what I noticed is.. I swear when I turn the trottle (Oh im on a first Gen SV650S) the carbs are supposed to open up? Like the sliding panel things? They do not open up when I turn the throttle and My bike doesnt ever really want to start without giving it a rev when tje choke is on? Am I right? Could that be my problem? I am changing the spark plugs today anyways bcz I need the bike to be perfect soon as I am getting rid of it but I still want to ride it like now! Any help?

Not sure about the first gen, but isn't your bike fuel injected? Your symptoms sound like you are out of fuel, silly question but do you have gas in the tank?

The "sliding panel things", I am presuming are the vacuum slides. They are operated by vacuum created by the amount of air flowing into the engine, which is only happening if the engine is running under load.

Check the simple stuff: Fuel tank venting, air filter, fuel filter if it has one. If that doesn't identify the problem then take the bike to someone who knows what they are doing.

First gens are carb, from 2003 and up they started the fuel injection :P And it def has gas lol I might try putting more but I lnow when I was riding it the gas light did not come on and I can hear gas in the tank. I am goimg to try and add more gas just icase and check all that stuff, if no luck I will see if Ken cn gey it up for me

Since you were changing the plugs, what did the old ones look like? Wet with fuel, dark with carbon, white insulator or a nice tan colour. Plugs can tell a lot about what's going on with the engine. I don't know your bike but if there are any fuel filters or screens at the fuel shut off, you might want to check there if the plugs are not black which would mean too rich of a fuel.
Good luck
