I had no idea that the tail section of my trackbike is mae of cf.(it's fully painted) Can cf be repaired the same way you patch up glass? I don't care about looks.I found another brand new never used tail section. When i picked it up,the weight shocked me and upon closer inspection of the old tail,it appears to be carbon.

James Parrault (sp) used to work in carbon and does glass bodywork (Squidskins) he would likely be the best person to tell you. If your contacting him use the telephone I know he is rarely online.

yeppers! you can use fiberglass to repair the carbon fiber...... if you dont care what it looks like.

once it is painted you wont be able to tell anyways.

Fiberglass the back, i've replaced a exhaust can this way.

OR STITCH IT with safety wire!

You should be able to repair the Carbon Fiber with carbon without issue. It is the exact same technique as you would do with Fiberglass. The only difference is you would likely be using an epoxy compared to a resin like the FG would be using.

The only issue with doing a repair is the strength/durability issue if you do not vacuum bag the part (which you could do, but it doesn't sound to be a strength integral part so no worries if you don't). Make sure the part is super clean when adding the new CF and wear all your protective equipment (organics level mask, gloves, etc.).

I would offer you up some CF cloth, but I'm not even sure I have any left in the shop that isn't already spoken for on projects.
