Carbon Fiber Applied onto ABS

Anyone here tried this? I was going to apply it over my front and rear fender. I like the look of the CF, but really didn't need to have true CF units.

I'm assuming that I'll need to use epoxy resin.

Any application suggestions or techniques?

Thanks.

Why not just use a carbon fibre sticker? If your going to go as far as adhering real carbon fibre you might as well make your own part using the oem as a mold.

I wasn't prepared to go thru the hassle of making a mold of the OEM part - not that I've made a mold before. I'm sure I could do it. I just didn't want to spend the time mold making. I have a million other things to finish. I love the 'deep, rich look' of CF. I was just hoping to get that look by layering it over the ABS. You just can't get that 'deep, rich look' with the vinyl

I do it at the shop ,

Taking real carbon , on top of oem plastics.
We make them for bikes that carbon parts aren't avalable for, and just want that nice carbon look

Looks really good!

I think your looking for something more or less like this....I just don't know if something like it is available here locally and how much...

Thanks GK. I found the same video on line.

I had the same questions as well. I'll have to do a little research. Getting the epoxy and CF is easy enough. It's just finding the bonding agent.

Carboncat has done whole bikes.
I intend to do this to my KTM as well.
It isn't cheap- just the materials alone are $$. I got them from an aircraft supplier. Be sure not to apply much resin over the carbon-it can yellow. Better to use automotive clearcoat overtop as it is much more UV stable.

Top notch work carboncat! That's the look that I'm going for. I figured I should be able to handle a simple rear hugger and front fender as well. A couple CF accents should look cool. I just have to source all the materials.

I've hear of the yellowing happening. They say you can get that if you don't use good EPOXY resin.

For sure you need some good auto clear. If you spend the money to do the skinning, then best to spend a little more for good clear.
