Car Tire Recommendations

Looking to replace the Odyssey, and most likely Volt, tires in the very near future (prior to end of season) as they're both wearing down.

Any recommendations for good tires? More importantly recommendations for good shops!?

Nowadays with inflation the way it is...I can only imagine I'm going to pay through the nose for a new set of tires. I can probably hold off the rest of the season on the Volt as they're not as low as the Odyssey. Those need replacing in the very near future.

I like winter rated that I can drive on all year. ( I think they are called "All weather"now. I was using Hancook but don't recall the model on my Odyssey.
I'd think your Volt requires special low rolling resistant tires. Isn't there a Volt forum?
I tended to use Canadian Tire - at the time they were the exclusive for the Hancook All weather but dunno now.

There is! But GTAM is also a great resource so I always ask here first.

I think you're right about the LRR tires for the Volt. I can go to normal tires...but will lose range as they get grippier.

I don’t think you can beat Costco for tires if you’re a member. I put a set of Michelin Cross Climates on my step daughters Corolla and she’s been very happy with them. I always try to stick with Michelin, they’re a little more money but generally worth it.

I bought my last set of Pirelli tires from Toyota. They price matched whatever I found online for tires. I think I found this site with the best prices at the time
or here:

Also I went with a lower speed rating tire like H or something as I didn't believe I needed something rated for over 180 KPH. Which saved some money.

Shockingly one of the lowest prices appears to be at the Honda dealership for Michelins.

I've used PMCTire pretty much exclusively over the last few years @sburns but their pricing was best...now it's not so much.

Just looking at the Honda schedule ... ugh ... transmission fluid, oil change, brake fluid, tires, and serpentine belt (at 100k!?)...guess no Christmas for the kids this year.

I used to use All Weather tires on my pickups in BC, as they are usually pretty good in the rain, which is more of a winter issue there than snow (though when it snows there it's usually extra slick as it's slushy and just below freezing). It let me keep my fancy rims on all year round without the headache and cost of swapping tires twice a year.

But like most things that are a compromise, they're not as good in the winter as a true snow tire, not as good in the summer as a grippier tire, and don't last as long as high mileage tires. In BC, summer grip was a non-factor for me in a pickup, and truly cold weather performance was equally meaningless. In Ontario, though, I prefer the extra cold weather grip of true snows, even if it means steel rims for four to five months...

Recently bought a set from blackcircles.ca. found them to be the best price out of all the Canadian sites (No B.s brokerage or duty charges like the American sites) shipped to my door. Any used tire place should be able to put them on for you for $20-25 per tire mounted and balanced if you want to go through the trouble.

I think dealers have really upped their game for tire pricing over the past few years. I never would have thought to buy from a dealer for tires.
Another place I use to buy all my tires was Steelcase tires. Old school kinda place.

I think the reason you can’t run studded tires in Ontario is because they’re just too hard on the asphalt. Imagine every car on the 401 with studded tires, there would be nothing left of it after a few winters. Not to say that dumping mega tons of salt on it is much better.

crazy amount of added noise too for both the driver and others, quite annoying actually.

They also destroy parking garage traffic deck coatings and parking decks.

Let us know what you end up with MP. My car needs new summers and winters. I'll probably pick up a used set of winters on rims as that should last me for my time with this car. Summers will probably be rubber only. Given where I live, I don't trust all-weather. If I lived in the city and had some flexibility regarding driving on horrible days, I would strongly consider them.

There are a surprising number driving around. Easy to hear when they are near you. Not sure if they are registered up north or if they just don't care. IIRC, a vehicle registered up north can run them and can drive south occasionally with them on.
