So I'll try and condense this. Daughter wants to lease a new Honda civic, she has an '08 cobalt she would like to sell to the dealership.
She goes to get pricing and quotes and explains she can sign no paperwork since the cobalt is registered in my name, they give her a price for buying out the cobalt and a monthly lease rate, she says great I'll be back in three days (dad was traveling) . We go back and they have moved the lease rate up $57 and cant confirm the amount they will give for the cobalt, used car manager must view it. They cant fnd him and even though we booked an appointment he isn't answering his phone.
We ask for the rate the quoted on saturday, this is tuesday, salesman says " my sales manager threw that number up to put a deal on the books and gauge the kids level of interest" . I say, well it worked we would like to take that price. Cant do it.
So I say ok bye now. They say lets see what we can do... now they can come down $21 bucks. its the right direction but all I want is for them to honour the original deal.
Salesman says "let me put this is laymans terms so you can follow" I say " EXCUSE ME?. we get ready to leave... He says hangon. let me talk to my manager, now they are down $65 bucks to below the offer they made on the saturday. Salesguy cannot do basic math.
NOW they confirm the cobalt buy price even though they cant find the used car manager yet.

Then the delivery, saleguy books delivery appointment, doesnt show up. His helper is doing the paperwork, its ok but the cheque for the buyout Cobalt is locked in a managers office. We made the delivery appointment two days prior.

If not for my buy local preference and my kid liking the car I'd have left the whole deal there on the desk. How can clown colleges like Powerhouse Milton Honda exist with idiots like this running the place....... guess by leasing cars to idiots like me.

I would have lost my lid at "layman's terms" but next to me you are probably the Dalal Lama.

Yeahh...."car shopping"...say no more. :-)

Spoke to a guy in New Hampshire..no tax state..list price for the same vehicle is $7k less..vehicle is assembled in the States..no duty..all in all, you get the same vehicle for $7k less and you get a nice drive through New Hampshire! :-) No bull, no idiot sales people. They love our business..

I would cancel the deal due to the crap you are dealing with and find a honda dealer in a smaller town.

they have moved the lease rate up $57

Would've had me about ready to leave unless some very quick corrective math was applied.

"let me put this is laymans terms so you can follow"

Would've had me out the door asking if my actions were "layman's" enough for him to understand that I was saying "F*** you"

But is the US warranty honoured on this side of the border?

We car-shopped at Clarington Honda (I'd call that a smaller town) and they were terrible. We went to dealerships for all the major manufacturers and only had a bad experience at Honda.

Not small enough. I'm looking for a town where people say hello to each other. Bought my last car in a town like that and had awesome service.

If I ever went to a small town like that, I'd get the evil eye!

I just bought my first car a month ago, a used '05 Toyota Matrix from downtown Toyota (Toronto) and we were there for hours trying to get a deal. the saleman kept including some $300 extra insurance theft thing that we told him to get rid of. They took my aunts credit card right away so we couldn't leave. @ of us left and then they sent out their next higher up person. We talked to 5 different people there to make a deal. Ended up getting it for $9500, tax in, but man was it annoying.

Did you visit any other Honda dealerships between your visits to the Milton location (or any other dealerships for that matter?) They're idiots that treat you like **** and still get your business, what's their incentive to change? I like to support shopping locally, but there's enough Honda dealerships in the GTA that you can still be SOMEWHAT local without getting treated like ****.

Send an email to corporate and complain about the dealership. Names and dates help.

I had a horrible experience at Dynasty Auto Selection a few years ago...

I ended up getting my current Ford Edge at Eastgate Ford in Hamilton and they were very good to me.

Sadly enough we didn't, my daughter was doing the research and they had the vehicle she wanted. We should have gone to Burlington or Oakville. It's really my fault for getting treated like a boob, I've been doing this long enough had it not for my kids involvement I'd have left.

If you can imagine the cheque to buy out the '08 Cobalt was not available last night, some story about a new controller that wont leave cheques after he leaves @ 5pm. And you close a deal how?
So they guarantee the cheque would be available today at 10am. I say please dont pull times out of your arse, I'm really busy but need closure on this. They say no problem, you have our word on this. 10am, no cheque, signing officer can't be found. I flip and tell them the Honda is coming back, stuff the deal. 10 mins later they are holding the cheque.

Can clown shows like this last long? They are owned by the Leggat group, pretty successful GM dealers from Burlington. Hope dad Leggat has deep pockets, propping up these idiots must cost a few bucks.

Perhaps inform upper management about the quality of their service?

I can relate to all these stories. Brand didn't matter, most of these dealers now are complete boobs.

I can recommend 2 dealerships that went above and beyond with their service, and I completed car deals, as promised, on time, and faster than it takes to go suit shopping sometimes. Pickering Honda (ask for Dan Luchian) and Mark Wilson's out in Guelph.

Sometimes, you just gotta get up and walk away. As long as the $$ is in your pocket, you run the show. They're in the business of selling cars, and if they can't do that right, walk away.

ymmv

Honda Canada will be calling the car owner soon, to ask about the dealership experience. Tell them your experience and how disappointed with your first Honda experience. Play it up that you expected so much better service.

They take this stuff seriously. And if they get enough complaints from different people, heads will roll.

You could even go one step further, and call them and make your complaint.

Good on you for having the dealer remove stupid add ons. Thats the first thing I look at when making a deal.

Never ever surrender your credit card, cash, or any other form of payment. They will use this as a tactic to make sure you are serious about the deal.

Do ALL your negotiations FIRST, then leave a down payment when you are happy with the terms.

If they say they need a credit card to "show your serious", walk out the door and head to the next dealership.

In these lean times, no dealership wants to lose a sale. Play by YOUR terms, not THEIRS.

I recently purchased a new vehicle, and it took me the 3rd dealership to realize I was serious and negotiate on MY terms.

Sorry to hear about your terrible experience with that dealer! That behavior is inexcusable. In layman terms? Lol!!

Im not sure if you or your daughter would consider looking at any gm options you can look at the new cruze or an upgrade sonics. They are pretty decent cars I think. I work at a gm dealership so feel free to message me privately if your interested in more quotes. It may be a drive but no harm in making a good deal if you can get it.

Thats not surprising. I walked into Brampton Power Sports with enough money in my pocket to buy a bike and a CC that could buy 5 bikes and they didn't take me seriously ( in winter no less).

Best part is they get mad at me when I told them they are wasting my time.
