pardon mw for my the lack of knowlege about bikes, I only started riding this september. And i go to this site to seek advice and opinion from the experts or from people who got more experience than i am, if the question was ask a trillon times, i hope i did not offend anybody.

thanks for answering my question though
cheers

As it is hard to search car or oil, If you have a wet clutch make sure the oil doesn't have an "energy conserving" label on it.

can we use car oil for our bikes? and what's the diff.

cheers

There is no such thing as "CAR OIL" nor is there such a thing as "BIKE OIL"

There is oil that conforms to a certain standard that one engine manufacturer calls for, and there is other oil that conforms to some other standard that some other engine manufacturer calls for.

Read your owner's manual, and read the fine print on the bottle, where it says what standards that the oil conforms to.

A very typical one that a good many motorcycle manufacturers call for the oil to be in compliance with, is JASO-MA. But, often the manual allows for the use of oil that meets any one of several different standards.

If that is what your owner's manual calls for, and that's what the bottle says, then it is good.

(The difference, by the way, is in the various additives that are present in the oil for all sorts of different objectives - extreme-pressure, or anti-foaming, or resistance to certain types of contaminating elements, etc. Different engines that have different design elements or materials inside them or different operating temperatures, require different additive packages.)

Another vote for Motul 5100. Don't cheap out, it's not worth the few buck you save.

And Motul 5100 isn't that bad either, About $30 for a 4L jug ;)

I used Mobil 1 20/50 red cap synthetic car oil in my '93 sportster engine for many years. No problems. I even switched back and forth from synthetic to dino even though the parts person at the Harley dealer swore that I could not do that. Still running that engine with no problems, lots of hard rides, and even pulling a trailer for the last 4 years. Never put it in my wet clutch though, always used the reccomended stuff for the tranny and wet clutch combo.

H-D and many BMW engines are a different deal because the clutch isn't lubricated by the engine oil, and this is why my earlier post stressed to read the owner's manual. There's no need for JASO-MA or the concern about "energy conserving" oils if the engine doesn't have a wet clutch. For that matter, same goes for other engines that have a dry clutch (e.g. Ducati).

Where? Kahuna sells them for 54.99

do yourself a good thing never go to kahuna, every time i ask price for parts they are the most expensive! i have bought a bike in kahuna with no issues except it was more expensive than other shops.

PRO-6 cycle (Kipling south of Dundas) MOTUL 5100 is roughly $30 and 7100 is less than $40, best deal anywhere...

dude you are the man! i paid $42.95 for 5100 at snow city!! i could have saved $10 at pro-6.

but i gotta say snow city is pretty reasonable about their prices, i surprising found engine-ice for $21.95 from them this is hard to beat!

FWIW I use Rotella T6 in my suby and in my old *** bike. The benefit of this arrangement is that whenever Canadian Tire has a sale I can buy in bulk and kill two birds with one stone. It's fantastic!

Use the search for further details, as this topic has totally been discussed before.
