Car bumped this morning

Hey all,

Just looking for some advice here. This morning on my way to work some kids in a broken piece of crap car bumped into my car at a stop light (rear ended). It was at very low speed, 5km/h or less. I got out to check the damage, and didn't see any at a glance. We decided to pull over to the side to check things out, and when i turned over, the guy rolled off in traffic.

I didn't manage to get his license plate, just a vague description of the car and people.

So my question is, should I call in and make a report with the police for it? I'm a bit worried they might file one and try to leave me high and dry. On the other hand I'm worried about my insurance premiums will go up because of this.

I'd report it to the police just incase.. you never know, if they cant drive now, chances are that they may hit someone else. If the description matches yours, it could help someone in the future. No damage, so no need to tell your insurance. Your insurance wont go up anyway.

I've made it a point in mind that if I'm in any similar situation etc I will take a photo with my cellphone of the other people/vehicle and plates. Protect yourself.

Also, chances are you'll probably see them the same time tomorrow morning or another day in the same area if you really wanted to... but if no damage, then probably safer to just leave it. You got to be careful, its the summer silly season and so many people are getting shot etc..

They left the scene of an accident, I am sure they are not going to report jack schit.....

you have no damage to your vehicle, carry on with life.....

just my thoughts....

Seconded. They didn't flee in order to get back at you later on, they left because they didn't want any more to come of this. I'd call it an inconvenience and move on. No harm, no foul.

I'd report it. You have nothing to lose. At least they'll be a record of them when they do it again.

I'm still a bit angry about it all. I think I might wait another few hours, cool off and think it through then. I don't really want to make rash decisions while angry.

What can you report, and how far do you think it will go....

you have a vague description of the guy's and the car, no plate, no witness to back you up, no damage to your vehicle to show you got hit

I am sure it was not intentional, probably the driver was distracted for a second, it was a low speed impact

there is nothing for the cops to go on, so I am certain they will not do much in this case....heck they don't attend most small fender benders, I don't see them acting on this incident

your mad, granted, grab a beer with lunch, enjoy the nice day, finish work, and go home and relax, no sense in stressing over this minor bump....

as they say sheit happens.......this was just one of those times

From experience I suggest you don't report anything and forget about it. If the damage is minimal to none why even worry about it ? If you report it you will now have an incident on your record as well as an accident on your vehicles history. Both will cost you in the long run

Report it now.

There is technically no suspect info so it can be done at a Police division or community station (depending on where it occurred and the Police force that it falls to)

Then get the report/incident number and make a note of it.

That way if you come across them again, or find damage or something later on, you don't have to explain the whole story and go through the whole ordeal of "Why didn't you report this when it first happened?"
You can just refer to your previously filed report.

I used to be a Police dispatcher/communicator and I would go through this all the time with people on the phone.

They can report it at a CRC, (Collision Reporting Center), later they could state that they felt "intimidated" by the other drivers reaction, or they felt the traffic in the area made it unsafe to stop, etc etc etc... you know sometimes people lie..lol

But I do agree nothing to report OP so let it go, not likel coppers are going to stop every 2005 chev malibu, to try to find the one that bumped you, Just using a generic vehicle for effect. Look at when they were looking for a "camaro" back in Paul Bernardos days.

No harm no foul. I would take this as a learning experience.

Next time take a picture immediately, before the cars get moved and include the driver and plate number. Then stories can't get skewed.

A lot of people run because the driver is suspended, no insurance etc.

There's a long list of people that thought there was no damage only to later find hidden damage.
