hey everyone, i went down last friday and had cola fiend come check out my bike and everything was repairable for him until i remembered when i picked up my bike after the accident the gear shifter was like it spun a 180, when your toe is normally there to shift it instead it would be behind your heel, so it wasnt bent it was flipped, i dont no how it happened but it did. i unscrewed it and flipped it back to normal and was able to shift down to neutral and take it to the shop and forgot to tell the mechanic so he never checked it out. anyway, cola has offered to help me out instead of pay rediculous mechanic money and we cant get into 2nd which seems like a problem, any suggestions? if u wanna come check it our urself and give me some advice then send me a pm, im in brampton.
thanks everyone, simon

I'm no tranny expert by any means but if that shaft has been forced around there's more than likely a serious issue that won't be a quick, easy, or usually cheap when it comes to a tranny problem.

Yup. It'll notch cleanly down into 1st and easily shift back to neutral, but other than that, the other gears are like they aren't even supposed to be there. I tried rolling the bike back and forth to have things moving but no way will the shifter lift up to select another gear. I'm not a motor internals type of fixit guy. Any help from a mechanic would prove fruitful.
The rest of the bike I can repair with no worries. I don't want to start the front end if the cost to repair the tranny may be substantial.

Is it a kawi? you may be working against the positive neutral finder which prevents the bike from shifting into 2nd at a stop.

X2 Put it on a stand and try that first. My bike is the same way, doesnt even feel like there is a 2nd gear when sitting still. You have to have it moving to hit second.

Ok I was under the assumption that the shifter rod spun around! Jeez probably fine

+1 I also fell on my bike and shift lever was damaged, well it damaged the mechanism inside the gear box too and it ended costing me over $700 to fix. I also could not shift above 2nd gear.

kawasaki have a patton on the neutral finder, there are 3 ball bearings in 2nd gear that will only swift when the bike is moving about 10 km/h

I jyst got my brother to push me down the street and i still couldnt get into 2nd. When my neighboyr gets home im gonna borrow his rear wheel stand and try running the bike but i really thot pushing it would be enough so its not looking so good right now. Any other ideas?

no brake caliper would be a good reason not to ride! check gear shift pedal for proper postion with foot on peg to make sure it feels comfortable, so you dont miss shift through the gears.
