Canada's New Trade Agreement with the EU

It's one thing to remove the tariffs. It's quite another to address the non-tariff barriers such as differing technical standards, etc., and I've seen no word on that. The European CE-marking requirements are a substantial and very costly barrier for smaller North American companies who want to sell their products in Europe.

As long as all the services performed on those government contracts are performed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents (no migrants, tyvm), that would be ok. Pharmaceuticals will cost us $100 more per year per Canadian on average. I'm mildly optimistic about the entire scheme in general. We needed to diversify and stop depending entirely on the US. The fiberals paid lip service to it and wasted a lot of tax dough without concrete results. Harper pleasantly surprised me by taking action on that. I thought he would have been dropping on his knees in front of Obama.

As for us.. Think KTM, Aprillia, Ducati, Husqvarna and Triumph for less.. Current Duc owners will be ticked off as their bikes will become less exclusive :D

Anything to open up the trade with ANYONE outside the sinking ship that is the US economy...

Poof, more manufacturing jobs gone!

Bye bye middle class!

Do we even have manufacturing jobs anymore? I thought most of them left years ago and Canada is just a services and resources economy now.

Our meat for their cheese. Now that's a win-win.

I'd like to see how much the prices would drop for ducatis and triumphs. I'm actually planning to upgrade in 12-18 months. So, perfect timing.

Please, do say things that aren't true. We don't have manufacturing jobs because china already took them.

In this new deal can we import Eastern european strippers and playmates???

"From high-fashion clothing to perfume and European-made cars, items made on the continent will be coming into Canada with little or no import tariffs, making them potentially cheaper for Canadian buyers."

Can wait to see some more Alfa Romeo's and Fiat's here. Hopefully the small car trend makes it way over here followed by tailored clothing.
Personally, I can't wait!

One other interesting development could be more passenger cars and small trucks with diesel engines.. Economical way to move a trailer and track gear.

lol all this means the dealer and manufacture will mark up the price. this deal will not be a good thing for canada.

How about importing a car from Europe to Canada? Wonder if this agreement would make this easier and more cost effective. Imagine bringing in sweet used EU cars here for little or no import duties.

Won't happen. Cars have to meet Canada design and safety regs, which are separate from the FTA. The only europe cars that do that are ones specifically sold here and in the US. But many parts, etc, will become cheaper.

Now if these countries every decided to harmonize their design and safety reg's for vehicles that would be great and then you could buy them.
