Canada kicking out autistic boy...

If you're that concerned give Immigration a call and offer to pay the kid's medical bills out of your own pocket.

How does it take 9 years to get your citizenship in order when your Mom, Brother and Sister are Canadian Citizens?

We're under no obligation to accept everyone who wants to become a citizen. There are a lot of people with a lot of medical problems, are we supposed to feel worse about this because it's a child?

It's one of those things you conveniently put off till later if you know the big red rubber stamp's gonna come out.

Everyone wants one more exception. The family is in an unfortunate situation but others are in worse places. Korea beats a lot of African countries. I don't think Canada is out of line compared to other countries.

I feel sorry for them but understand IC's position, especially in a day and age when we don't need more immigrants. The kid will probably take a Canadian kid's job before a Chinese kid takes his

I understand policy too.

But if it were my decision to make it'd be an easy one.

Have the parents been employed an taxed the entire duration of their time in Canada? If yes, he can stay. If no, f-off.

I'm confused, the mother and two kids are Canadians. Doesn't mean that the father and son can apply as dependents?

interesting, I had no idea autism was such a red-flag when it came to immigration.... it really appears as if our policies on immigration are... inconsistent.

Perhaps a solution would be that if those afflicted with certain flagged diseases agreed to fund their own medical expenses (whether through private insurance created specifically for these instances or through out-of-pocket means) thus not putting a strain on an already strained healthcare system...

I understand both sides, at some point we really do need to put our foot down and stop taking all the world's misfits, sick, elderly and just generally useless. We have MORE than enough of that.

You would be surprised. Its easier to sponsor a spouse than a family member. US is the same. If married you could move to the states in 6months to 1 year. Meanwhile it can take 2 or more years to sponsor a parent. Kids its even harder. Stupid system.

My mom teaches autistic kids. Not only does it cost the goverment money for additional education but medication aswell. Its insanely expensive.

As for the artical. The father doesnt know much about autism. Autism is a communication disorder not motorskills. They have issues talking to people or writing or displaying emotions. Thats why the rare ones turn to music or mathmatics etc and excel. Its the only form of communication they can master and since theres so much focus, they do really well. But thats rare.

Sounds cruel on the surface but these sorts of rules are put in place to protect permanent residents of Canada from fraud. The family in question may be 100% but not everyone is. I had to spend an awful lot of my own money proving the health and well being of my own family to Immigration Canada before they'd even interview me for a visa. I went into the process knowing the rules.

Isn't it kind of arogant of us to believe that he will get better care in Canada? Do you really think S. Korea is that backwards?

It isn't about quality of care. Its about the cost, or potential cost, of care.
