Look at these roads that do anything but straight!! :sad5:

that's what they usually do when the terrain is everything but flat...looks fun a lot like Kauai, a Hawaiian island I was on.

And you could hit all those roads in 2 days of determined riding...
it's all of 25km side to side as the crow flies.

Portuguese Island of Madeira, Funchal is the capital. Airfare to get there must be about 3k

Doubt it would be 3k more like 1k. I have been to Madeira gorgeous island but I am from Soa Miquel Azores and there are some crazy roads there to.You can ride along the coast right around the island crazy switchbacks curves edge of cliffs with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains the other side. Googlemap the island and you will see.
The interior roads through the mountains are a supermoto dream.Gonna do some body surfing and rip up the roads on the island late july and eat like a champ and 60 cents for a draft don't hurt. Beer is cheaper than a bottle of water or coke.

lol, i hear u have better chance of finding ronaldo on island of port santo of coast of madeira. as he has three major hotels and night clubs there.
not much of fan of his.

All you need is a Motard, a 1098 would never get out of 3rd gear. just think of a 100 mile deals gap with lots of elevation changes . The only thing I do not like are the high curbs they have on these roads to manage the water, but the benefit is that there is virtually no gravel or sand on the roads. Wore the tires off my rental car last summer in San Miguel.

Soa Miquel, I have a house passed down from my parents there with a bar and restaurant attached to a 5 bedroom home which is just sitting idle. I was thinking of buying 3 600's and 3 klr's shipping them there and starting up a touring riding setup with accommodations... meals and support while leading tours around the island in the near future. My retirement:D

I will definitely be retiring there and live like a king. Wife is also from there so it's all good.

Here is another picture off the web of a freshwater lagoon beautiful area there is also hot water springs that is a waterfall that goes into a natural basin amazing place and the water is supposed to be therapeutic cause of the iron content.

What were my parents thinking coming here from paradise

This is furnas natural venting of the volcanic activity which is producing power for the island and even underground is hot. People place a pot of food and actually cook it in the ground really cool to see

It doesn't help that SATA is raping everyone for flights now since they bargained a monopoly to the islands,24 hour layover is good you could get a lot of the good sights in....furnas, sete cidades is really nice, lagoa and villa franca work your way around the island and finish with a super meal in ribeira grande. The views are very similar to Madeira just a bit larger.Something about the islands that draws me in it must be the fisherman in my blood line.
