Can they do this?

First let me say that although I ride, insured with statefarm, 35, 1 minor-auto ticket, 5+ years with G and just got my m2 for $1300 per year I'm having problelms insuring a car.

What's happened is about 2 years ago I was working on a smaller film and was asked to move a vehicle. Upon reversing, I bumped into a post and caused some damage to the bumper and hatch (bone head move).

Given this was in a lot there was no report done.

On a side note, my job can/does consist of rigging cars, and at times we need to move them. I've seem this happen before (car gets damaged) and it's always been that the production company deals with it.

So I advised the producers and was told not to worry about it, the production will take care of it.

Seeing I ride and live in the DT core I never really had a need for a car, however I came across a great deal on a truck. So I call up a broker, advise that I want to insure the vehical and he tells me about this accident I had 2 years ago. At first I thought he was mistaken, perhaps got me mixed up or something but then after more discussion it turns out that....

the production company I was working for had been given a vehicle by another company (the directors father had given the production their company vehicle) and instead of going through the film productions insurance (I dont think they ever got it) they put the claim through the dads company fleet issuance, listed me as a driver for the said company and had the vehicle fixed by Toyota. Total cost of damage 2000.

Now my premium for auto insurance 6000 per year due to this "accident" that shows up on my autoplus report as being 100% at fault.

Is this legal? Is it not fraud? If one bumps a post and wants to go through insurance isn't it the policy that gets increased?

Ive tried contacting the production (director)to discuss the matter but couldnt get him to return call. Contact the company to which the policy is reg, spoke to the person responsible for their insurance matters and was directed to the CEO of the company (father or director). Still no call backs or email replies.

Tried calling the insurance company and although they are nice and seem willing to help but they cannot discuss anything because of privacy laws (need auth from policy holder)

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
