Looking for someone to do a fairly intricate powdercoat on a set of wheels.

Recommendations? People to stay away from ?

I see most people are charging 45 to 70 per wheel. Not looking to get the entire wheel done. Just around the lip and centre.

This is actually exactly what I was thinking when I saw them. So I asked them to help me with unwrapping one of them for a spot check. Turned out to be flawless.

Really? Just PM Johnny P hes done a entire bike for me and I couldnt have been happier

$70 is very low. There is overhead / prep / tape etc involved.

my current cost is $30-35 per wheel not including prep or blasting...So $70 all in is a very decent price

The process is easy but the equipment if you buy good stuff is expensive, we just spent $5000 on a new coating gun and $10,000 on an oven. The sand blaster we are looking at getting is another $12,000, so the equipment isn't cheap...

I can offer a better price if you just doing lips and centers, but keep in mind being powder coat you cant tell it to not go on the spokes. We mask that area off but it still gets coated, the cost is in the masking. The value of the powder if its a standard color is a mere few dollars...

I still have to wait for them to arrive from the US.

You keep going on and on about Johnny P, I know he's probably a good guy. But are you in any way affiliated with him?

If you are its only fair that people know so that they'll know there is no degree of bias involved.

Don't mean to bust your chops

I am in no way affiliated.
I would go on and on about other people or shops I've dealt with if my experience was pleasant, which I have.
(Check review section)

Johnny looked after me on more than one occasion and I like to give credit where credit is due.
And on top of all of that, his work comes out clean (powder) and his prices are cheap.

I've sent a few people off this forum to see Johnny and they had nothing but positive experiences as well.
I just visit him a lot more frequent because I'm always doing something to my bike, whether it's powder coating or mechanical work/upgrades. Did you see my review thread on what he did to my bikes?

Fair enough, moving along...

So did you use them? How was the service/finish?

I have not used them as of yet....

I am not ready for powder coating yet, still in the process of taking the bike apart, I have to figure out all that will require powder coating first

give them a call, based on the price I was given for frame, rims, and misc parts, I would be willing to chance it....some of the place around here were 3X of what these guys quoted me....

Since you cant reuse your valve stems after powder-coating your rims (ok, you can, but they are a pain to pull and easier to replace) may I recommend some angled valve stems? Such as these or these. Makes checking tire pressure and refilling much easier without having to deal with your rotors getting in the way.

Not looking to coat the entire rim, just around and inside the lip and centre.

Yeah I know... just saying, it's more work with the measuring and accuracy needed. Less paint doesn't mean lower price.

Nope. Wouldnt expect that. I realize that its probably easier to just do the entire rim, since what im asking for is probably requiring alot of taping off stuff than normal.
