Can anyone help with title/ownership?

So heres the thing,

Im interested in buying a 1979 Kawasaki KH100 cafe racer build in the process. The only problem is that it doesnt have a title, but it will come with a bill of sale. It does have a UVIP that comes with it (connecting to the previous owner i assume). Nothing has changed other than the colour has been painted from blue to black.

With the information i have now, how would i go upon getting the bike a title, ownership, that kind of stuff, and putting everything under my name? Apparently i need a affidavit? Or is there more information i need..?

Bill of sale and UVIP should be enough to change the title to your name.

If you don't have a safety, it will be registered unfit.

Once it's ready for the road, return to the MTO to get it plated and tell them about the change in color.

For what its worth, my experience in this area is to get the builder to do all the work.
He built it, he is selling it, he knows where all the parts came from, he will have any answers to any questions that may be asked.
So have him go to the MOT and get a title.

+1 Also, if this guy built the bike with the intention of selling it... not having it titled already makes me wary. If he's already putting money and work into it, why skip that step
 
To get a title, I think you need to provide an affidavit along with receipts to demonstrate how you got the bike.
Provide that to the MTO and they can process it.
Call the MTO to verify. I think they have this info posted on their site.
 
UVIP + Bill should be enough, at least it proves the bike's been registered in Ontario. If it's not then get this signed:

Again, I wouldn't touch a bike that wasn't already registered with MTO with a ten foot pole.
Just look at all the threads on this forum. This is probably the most asked question.
I read about how easy it is, I read about how difficult it is.
Unless you are getting a $10,000 bike for $500 don't walk away, run.
 
Get him to transfer the bike into his name, then you're legit. He may have already tried and failed and now wants to pass along the headache to someone else. Ontario is not the deep south. A spit and a handshake is not enough.
 
The fact that the bike has a UVIP means it is in the MTO system. Go to the Service Ontario and just say the ownership was lost. You may need to try a few offices before you find a clerk who doesn't care about it's history and print you new papers. I've done this several times. No one gets suspicious about worthless old bikes.
