I've recently acquired a new HJC RPHA 11. What a nice helmet, and a smoking good deal on clear out.
It's a matt finish. The red already looks a bit pink to me, and I think this will become worse as it fades.
I've come up with the brilliant idea to give it a glossy clear coat. I'm very confident in my ability to mask everything off, but that's where my talent runs out.
This will be a low budget job, rattle cans will do. But what type? Laquer or enamel? I've no idea. What is this stuff?
What about surface prep? Is a wet sand required before application? When spraying small metal parts, I always wipe down with laquer thinner first, but I'm hesitant to do that here. How best to clean the surface before spraying?
Perhaps this is not such a good idea? Just thinking out loud, I suppose. Any experts out there?
