Cabbies.

The thread title says it all. But really, I've been raced by cabs on a regular basis because they want to be in front of me so they don't have to pay attention to me on my bike.

The problem is that they stop and swerve randomly, making it incredibly dangerous for riders to be behind one. What has stood out is that they will race me to lights, race me out of lights, and do everything they can to get in front, which to me is more than aggressive, it's threatening. Those lazy bastards won't even pull over to let out a fare on the sidewalk instead of opening doors into traffic, but when it comes to a bike in front of them, all of a sudden they're stamping the gas like their work visa depended on it.

Someone said to me once that the A-B-C's of driving meant, "Always Burn Cabs" and I didn't agree, but now I do.

It's done, they are the enemy.

I make a point of NEVER letting a cab get in front of me at a light (ie: I am in left lane, he is is in right)

I had a cabbie pull up beside me at a red light, I ask if he's making a right turn, he says just go. Light turns green, I start to go and he purposely ran into my leg, and went around me. But there was a cop a few cars back and he saw the whole thing. He pulled us both over and the cabbie got nailed with careless driving. The cop was so ****** at the driver, it was funny to see

Well, they are professional drivers and you are not.

I prefer to stay behind them as I trust myself to react better than I trust them.

I've only ever been hit once, while walking across the street at a green light. He was just livid that I was on top of his hood.

Like many groups, most of them are fine, but there are a few troublemakers that give them all a bad name.

Kind of like those bikers that always try to get in the front...

If you want dangerous and ****** "professional" drivers, cabbies can't light a candle to tow truck drivers. These guys are absolutely insane.

Wait what? You were in the right-hand lane and he pulled into the one beside you? I know of a lot of double left hand turns but not too many right turns..

My personal rule of thumb and courtesy when driving is never to be in the right lane unless I will be turning right at the next light. I feel like a huge douche sitting in the right lane at a light while there is a train behind me waiting to turn. Of course I can't always make sure of this, but I try to. If I do end up there I pull up as far as I can and as close to the left line as I can so cars can squeak by.

These days there is a huge lack of respect and courtesy on the roads for anyone and everyone. I could go on and on but ill leave it at that.

The worst is when then they cut you off from the right after an intersection, and then proceed to go ten under the speed limit looking for fares where you cant pass them.. Happens to me at Bloor and Bathurst constantly.

straddling both lanes seems common, they hog the road and it's over aggressive, rarely signal, and are just generally confused as to where they are headed and how.
I act accordingly and will cut off every single one I get a chance to.

the thing that burns me (which it shouldn't) with cabbies and other drivers is the red light creeping. the light is red, they inch forward. still red. inch forward. ... guess what? it's red, they move forward.
I'm not sure why drivers do this, but my new thing is if someone behind me creeps forward when I haven't budged, I roll back a few inches.

+infinity!

Especially the ones with custom (ie. sank more into my truck than it'll ever make) around Mississauga/Brampton....

Followed closely in my mind by the airport cabs.

All a bunch of jack*** drivers if you ask me!

Cabbies are not paying attention to driving most of the time, either looking for fares, listening to the radio for calls, checking out the map for their pickup, or taking addresses on a notepad, so why would you want to have them behind you?

I know your suppose to keep both eyes on the road, but when a cabby is close by one eye just naturally locks on. They have been 60% of the quick stops I have made on the bike. 30% is cagers , 10% my own complete stupidity, to which I apologize to anyone it may have or will affect.

I give them more than enough space, I don't trust any car, but cabbies get extra space.

I never take a ride in one anymore. When I moved to Toronto I took a cab and asked to be let out one block early from where I wanted to go (I was photographing graffiti) and he went apesh1t! He was from Iraq (not that it matters)

I just think I got one of the "professionals".

Avoid riding in cities, problem solved.

U-turn of death.

to this point. i rode 350km's this wknd (started out Saturday morning) and the only ****** riding part was in Toronto. crazy traffic. crazy drivers. crazy people. just crazy everywhere. and not to mention the gridlock. Once out of the city nothing but bliss. Ah well. one of the trade offs with living in the city i guess.
