So despite having gotten a new water pump done at Rosey Toes after noticing a leak of both oil and coolant and bringing it to Ted, right after I rode the bike home I noticed, a few hours later, it was still leaking from the same spot. That was about a month ago and it has continued since. I called Ted and he, being the nice dude that he is, told me to bring it back, problem is, I was working so much every day up until last week that I did not have the chance to do that. Now, with the weather as cold as it is, I don't want to ride it to him. I told him it might not be until spring but now, after much thought, and discussion with friends, including some on this board, it is bugging me and I'd like to get it fixed now so it isn't leaking all over my garage all winter and will be ready to go in the spring.

My options are:
1) Don't be a sissy and ride it there despite the risks
2) Pay to truck it there
3) Use CAA

Now, my problem with option three is it seems wrong. Yes, I pay for my membership but isn't it supposed to be used for roadside emergencies? I suppose I feel like it is wrong to use CAA for this when technically the bike is rideable, even if it is leaking. If the weather was warmer I would just ride it there. Is it wrong to use CAA for this? I'd like to hear what you all think. And yes, I know I am a sissy for just not riding it there.

I've heard of people driving to a bar, getting wasted, and calling CAA to come tow them back to their house.

I think you'll be okay seeing as there is something wrong and you need to get to a shop. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think CAA only covers 3 tows a year?? There and back will be two out of three...

Just use CAA. If you're worried about them "catching" you, pull a fuse that is essential to the bike. If its more of a moral issue of what's right/wrong, I cant help because I dont have any morals.

Depends on the membership. Do not tell them you can ride the bike to the shop. Tows are only for mechanical failures. Tell them it's leaking coolant or oil and it will ruin the bike to run it to the shop.

CAA will only tow once per mechanical failure. So, if you tow it there, you can't tow it back home once it's fixed.

It might have worked back when road side service first came out but, the trick of getting a tow home after a night of drinking doesn't fly unless the vehicle has a mechanical problem.

That "mechanical problem" is only one fuse away.. lol done it 5+ times in the past few years. On cars, the fuel pump fuse is the best. Havent used the fuse trick on a bike yet, but its the same concept. The person actually on the scene towing the car/bike is getting paid to do the tow regardless so they usually dont go looking for these kind of things.

Don't be such a boyscout, you pay for CAA. Use it. But you can only tow it from your house to the shop, they won't pick it up from the same place and tow you back home.

You have Plus membership then pull the fuse. Make sure they bring a flat bed and have proper straps.

You don't even need to pull the fuse. The last time I needed CAA I said I was having mechanical issues (engine bearings sadly); the lady on the phone asked me what the problem was, and without getting into details with the call taker, I said the engine sounds really bad and that was good enough for them.

I used CAA to take a bike with flat tire from my place to the shop. No problems or issues.

Thanks for all the replies! I decided to do it and so I just called Rosey Toes. Ted is on vacation until January 2nd. Oy.

LIKE!

I used my parents' membership plus when my clutch broke at my school. CAA contracts it out to Motolimo anyway. So if you can get 1 free tow to the shop, u can pay for a Motolimo tow the way back. Or find a good friend/neighbour with a trailer =D
