Shortly after Sun News appeared on cable they gained a reasonable audience, but were swiftly whisked up to channel 144 on Rogers and 500 on Bell, off regular cable to where many TVs could not access them. That was no coincidence. Both Bell and Rogers, along with other Canadian media are supporters of the Liberal Party. The move off basic cable severely damaged Sun's viewership, and an appeal to the CRTC to intervene was rejected. The end result was what you see today. Sun News was the only genuine dissenting point of view on Canadian television and earned scorn in the leftist press because of it. I sure didn't agree with everything Sun broadcast, but they made some very interesting and revealing broadcasts about the CBC, the RCMP and other parts of the establishment - stuff you would never see anywhere else. It's not a good day for democracy in Canada, because the left media no longer has a whistle blower.
