Hey folks,

i'm looking to purchase an s2000 from the states, farther south i go seems like the better deals and conditioned cars. I was thinking of having it shipped to the border but there's the possibility of receiving a lemon. Has anyone done this before with either a bike or a car? Has anyone used inspection services such as carchex.com or inspectmyride.com?

Huge car importing thread on RFD forum in 'hot deals' section. Huge bike importing thread in 'general discussions' on this forum. Sorry, haven't used those inspection services. If I were to buy a car like that (and I will eventually), I'll just do as much research as I can online, get tons of photos, then fly to pick it up. Worst case - you're out a cost of airplane fare both ways, but at least you won't end up with a lemon.

I personnally would just have a Honda dealer inspect the car for you. Failing that maybe go onto an S2000 forum and find an independent mechanic in that region that could do it for you.

Got to watch out when dealing with flood and hurricane States. For example a huge number of people thought that they were getting huge deals, but ended up getting ripped off over cars they bought after the Katrina flooding.

I imported my 08 CBR 1k 2 years ago, but the process is the exact same:

Quite informative, thanks...

One question, I'm looking to buy from a dealership - I wonder if they will do the bill of sale for a small deposit like in your case, because I do feel the need to inspect the car first before dropping all my cash on it...regardless, I will ask when it comes time to negotiate.
