Buying a used bike in December

Just remember if you only insure your bike during the summer months, More then likely when you go to sell/remove the insurance you are going to be owing quite a few bucks.

Check out the TD and SF stickies in the insurance section. It might be in your interest to start insurance over the winter (Gets premium payments out of the way and will most likely get money back when you are done with insurance and you will have insurance in case anything happens over the winter.)

If the bike is safetied you get it registered as fit - unplated. As Jeff says, the only issue is when the renewal / cancellation kicks in. If you pay your insurance lump sum then it really doesn't matter. Winter insurance, as stated, also covers fire and theft if those are of concern.

Hey Jeff, good to meet you face to face at TD.

What if I buy insurance in April 2013, and I plan to keep the bike for maybe 2 years? After I renew my policy in April 2014, would there still be penalties if I cancel in April 2015 to sell my bike? (i hope this makes sense)

Pick it up and have an apointment for a safety. then register it with the safety. that way when you decide to get it on the road its a lot easier.
