Hi Guys,

What's a good way to buying a track bike? I have been looking in the 'for sale' section and it's been somewhat ok, but wandering if there is another forum/website that's more catering to the track enthusiasts in Southern Ontario. I saw some bikes for sale at Calabogie over the weekend, but I missed my chance, so please let me know if you got the 411 about these things.

Inside joke? Anyways, as everyone has mentioned, not many options out there for track bikes. Kijiji, Forums, Craigslist maybe? Or just talking to people too, come out to a track day and shoot the breeze and see if anyone knows a guy who knows a guy whos trying to get rid of a track bike.

There is always the option of auctions too (insurance right off's), never experienced any auctions personally nor do I know who, what, and where's, or even if public is allowed to bid. Maybe someone can chime in?

That's a nice bike, atleast from the description and price. I bought my mine (same bike/year) for 3400$ and it had nothing but bodywork and a slipon
 
I'd be weary on the KM's but what the hell for the price. As for starting track days, bodywork and a slip on is all you really need. Then just open your wallet from there.

That's a good deal too dricked for your bike, where did you find yours?

............. you get what you pay for (more times than not) insurance "write off's" and auctions are tricky business........ they some times are not the best option basd on your connections, and if that Suzuki is for real, its a gimme ........... be carefull, there is no easy answer to your question but buying someone else's headache's is not where you want to be. BG
 
Agreed, hence I haven't personally gone down that road. If you do take pride in manufacturing your own machine and have the knowledge in doing so, a cheap write-off is a good way to start though as long as your also knowledgable on what to look for frame/forks etc.. Buying a prepped bike IS typically the best, easiest and most of the time cheaper then building one.
 
Yeah it has gone downhill for sure. They (wera? forum mods?) seen it as an opportunity to start making money and started charging to post adds to their new site and locked the classifieds on the forum. Since then it appears they only have about 1/4 of the stuff for sale on their paid site and everyone is just going craigslist or other avenues. I do recall some guys wanting to start a free wera classifieds site but obviously the threads didn't stay open for long on wera.
 
Xfactor, best advice I can give is be patient. You are looking at a time when everyone with a track bike right now wants to ride. Things will pick up around end of the summer...

Also consider your experience and commitment level. Cheaper, less sought-after bikes will still offer LOADS of room to improve your abilities.
 
I have a (fairly) cheap old ZX-7 in great shape for sale. If you want to do some vintage racing and track days. And I *might* ... *maybe* consider selling my '05 GSX-R 1000. Depends on what your price range is and if you want a bike set up to that level of speed.

I found mine on kijiji. Has 22,000km so it was obviously a street bike but it's been running strong for the last 5 track days (2 open track). It would definatly have been cheaper to buy a prepped bike. By the time I put some rearsets on, do the breaks and get the suspension redone and other small stuff it adds up really quick but I don't regret it, met some good people through the seller to do track days with.
 
man is it ever hard to find a track bike...there are so many over priced salvage's and all the good ones are sold in minutes.

I have cash in hand for a sv650 but jebuz they are hard to find...
