So I’m looking at purchasing a supersport (for the sake of this thread we’ll ignore insurance costs) and my budget is around 6500 but can afford to go up to around 8000. Obviously cheaper is better but I’d rather pay more for a clean bike with service records. Around this price range I’m looking at late 00’s bikes. I’m hoping people can share their experiences regarding each of the bikes. I’m trying to decide between 07’+ CBR600RR, 08 + R6, 07’ + ZX-6R and 08’ + GSXR600 and 07+ Daytona 675, assuming all the bikes are on an equal playing field of maintenance and condition, which bike would you recommend and why? Any recommendations regarding models or years would also be appreciated, ie if the 07+ CBR600RR is worth 2K more then a similar 05 CBR600RR. The bike will be mainly street driven but planing on 4-6 track days a year.

what matters to you more? Reliability, Performance, Comfort?

40% reliability, 30% comfort and 30% performance. I’m coming from riding pre 90’s bikes so I’m used to fixing odds and ends every couple rides. And I’m young enough I can deal with the ergos of supersports, and have other bikes to fill the touring need

I should add I’ve read most of the comparisons articles online, and I’m hoping for a more personal opinion of less skilled people (me especially) then the experts employed to test the bikes

gsxr/zx6r i'd say. as reliable as they come and easy to find parts on a track day if you have a mishap.

i'd backseat the r6 due to it being a complete torture rack on the street.

675 is by far the least reliable, but best performance.

and i don't like much about the honda, but that's personal preference.

pick your poison.

Daytona, because daytona.

oh you wanted more?
3 cyl = more torque, better sound.

Back when supersports/superbikes were popular, the triumph regularly kicked the sh*t out of the jap bikes during comparisons and tests.

Matter of fact, I wanted to own one when I was a youngster in the good ol days of 2016, then I discovered naked bikes(90% of sport bike performance, 100% more comfortable), and triumph stopped making the daytona.

I have never owned, but have heard a few older triumphs had electrical issues, (I wouldnt let this deter me whatsoever) but we all know how accurate forum wives tales are.

I was also going to recommend an older street triple, since they're the same bike but a bit more upright.

A street triple would 100% be the sensible choice, as would most other naked bikes. But I just love the way the racer replicas of this time period looked, and I have other bikes to be my sensible bike haha

no tale, they break down all the time.

a friend of mine has 3 and more often than not 2 are not working at the same time lol.

he has 3 so it must be worth it then 🤷‍♂️

he refuses to track anything else, that doesn't make them reliable.

he has 3 so he can always have one running or swap parts.

I think I know who you're referring to, he lives on the track basically doesnt he?

07-08 CBR600RR or 08+ Gsxr 750. CBR would have very strong resale value compared to 750 but 750 is faster and more comfortable for trips (at least in my experience).

Repsol Honda for the visual win. Or Gixxer with white rims and extra stickers for more HP.

Nothing really makes one a clear stand out. So find a clean example that hasn’t been beat to death at a reasonable cost and enjoy the sound of its exhaust this winter and pick up matching gear over the winter for the spring fling at Timmie’s.

Daytona? Torque and sound? Yes please. Reliable? For the right price, I’d rationalize my poor decision and still be happy waiting for parts during prime riding days.

Never owned any……only drooled. Had a Kawi 600 back in the day and loved it. Then I found out you can have fun and be comfortable too. SS days were over before my bones said no.

My buddy has a gen1 Daytona 675. The valve guides aren't replaceable. At 60,000k he had to find a used head.

He's an aircraft mechanic. Does all his own bike work. Had it since new, street and track.

I own a 2007 gsxr600. I've been pleased with how well Suzuki thought out these bikes. Adjustable rearset brackets, stock. Low maintenance. Sturdy, well built. No special tools required to do basic maintenance (my Aprilia took lots of specialty tools, eg. valve adjustments).

I've owned predominantly Japanese bikes over the years. I think I'm around 20 bikes so far. My first 600ss. Always had bigger bikes, and a few smaller.

Aside from having to rev it to the moon, I've enjoyed it so far.

Any idea if the gen 2s have the same issue? Looking at prices I can probably pick up a gen 2 within budget

Not sure. His might have been a one off. Pretty sure most don't ride a 600 (or a 675) until they have higher mileage. Most write them off, or sell before they get up there.

That being said, here's a Honda f4i with 300,000 miles... original engine.

And this was 8 years ago. I wonder if he still has it, or what its at now.
