Buy or Rent a Helmet for M1x course?

Hi,

First off, this is my first post so be nice!:D

I have already signed up for the M1x course, which I'm totally stoked for, however it doesn't start till July.:( Between now till then I am contemplating if it would be worth to invest in a full face helmet or if I should rent one for the course. Like I don't see why I wouldn't want to ride a motorcycle after investing in the course, plus I've waited till after age 25 in hopes for low insurance rates and saving up. Two wheelers have been in my blood when I worked at CT a decade ago assembling and repairing bicycles. I eventually bought a trail bike and a BMX for my amusement, of course not from CT.;) Now the two-wheel beast is calling my name.

So I would like to ask you fine bikers when you first took your M1x course, did you buy a helmet or rent one? I know some of you may be lucky enough to have one or borrow from, but for those who didn't, did you think you made the right call either buying or renting? What would you recommend to first timers?

Any and all replies is much appreciated. :)

I bought mine. Why rent when you'll need it after the course too? If its price that's the worry, if someone can't afford 100$ for a lid, then this is the wrong "sport" for them.

This is your noggin we're talking about right?
Royal Distributing has nice helmets starting at right about $100.
At their Tent sale last month they had CK-X helmets for $50!
Also check kijiji and watch for folks who took the course then decided not to ride...

paid in full with a joe rocket jacket so they had no excuse for me not to take the course....

kapscomoto has got some $30 helmets DOT certified. Good enough for the course, and good enough for a spare once you get a bike and start riding.

Thanks for your response. I'm leaning more towards buying one because it would make more sense seeing this sport is something I want to go long haul. :)

Everyone else, thank you for your response however I was hoping for more of an advice reply rather than a where I can rent from. Again any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Studio cycle rents them and some schools do also. Ask the school first?

I'm deciding to buy one as it would be worth it if I'm going be committed to this hobby.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

When you first get your helmet, wear it as much as you can before the course. Nothing worse than a helmet that's not broken in and gives you a headache within the first 30 minutes of an 8 hour day hahahaha. I wasn't used to wearing one so I tried to take naps with it on.

Haha, thanks for the tip, dude. Wouldn't want that bad feeling while enjoying myself.

Yeah the cheekpads were the worst for me. My cheek muscles had a hard time smiling, after the first couple of sessions.

Sent from my calculator, using skills.

some schools provide them... I know the one i went to did. It was one in Brampton with one of the colleges. I showed up with a old denim jacket, jeans, and a pair of gardening gloves. They took care of the rest.
