Brand new bike, money earn... is an alarm worth the investment?

Hey guys

So purchased a brand new 2012 hyosung comet R, hard earned money and saved for it all by myself.

I was at work last week and came out for a bratty 16 year old leaning on the bike bragging to his little girlys it was his. This made me start looking into alarm systems like the gorilla 8007

any suggestions / is it worth the investment to save my investment? I like systems with 2 way pagers but apparently the range on the remote fob isnt very far.

Thanks for any advice

yes. buy one. if you want to save money buy the Spy 5000m. if you can afford it get the scorpio. it is a great theft deterrent and will probably save u $ on insurance. stopping kids and other ppl from touching ur bike is just a bonus. im not parking my bike anywhere until i get mine installed

If they want to take your bike they will take it, alarm, gadget, dog, wife.. whatever you tie to it will be useless.

1) Insurance will be best bet number 1.
Option 2 after option 1 is implemented
2) some sort of GPS tracker that runs on its own battery. IDlink is starting to come up from (look it up)

this is true if you left your bike in the middle of an ally way after midnight but when in a public place with people around its highly unlikely that a thief would risk being seen taking a bike while its alarm is going off.

Check GTAM for "bike stolen" ... alarm or no alarm on them, they usually get taken from underground parking areas, since they are usually desolated places after 11pm. Most stolen bikes are taken at night, I have yet to seen a report of a bike getting jacked in the middle of the day unless is due to rider leaving keys.

Just saying, yes alarms are deterrents within public places with high traffic.

As has been said above, the alarm likely won't deter someone who really wants to steal it. Professional theives show up in a van and load the bike before anyone even notices the alarm is going off.. That's what theft insurance is for. HOWEVER, for the situation you described above, an alarm is the PERFECT solution.. it's hard for some punk kid to lean up against your bike or for some d-bag to try and sit on it while the alarm is going off in the mall parking lot.

For a few hundred bucks, I like the peace of mind of knowing nobody is ****ing with my ****. My preference is the scorpio i-9000

am i the only one who rofled?

I figured if its stolen then its stolen but obviously insurance is there for that. Looking for a way to deter people from sitting / touching etc.....
what kind of alarm is best bang for your buck? Preferred plug and play like gorilla, definitely cannot afford scoripo. Ive read about spy but apparently the range is absolutely terrible on that, more then that i'm going to be riding it to school especially with nosy university 1st years.

By the way thanks for all the advice!

I have a Scorpio and its great..the fob takes care of the alarm when you're getting on/off or gassing up without you having to press any buttons. Auto arms after you park the bike. prox sensor is the best for deterring people (never had the tilt sensor go off yet).

Let me know how that DX alarm works out. You may find that it will drain your battery within a week or so if you're not riding, as has been observed from other cheaper alarms. Make sure to securely mount that stuff; you don't want it banging around when you're riding.

In the end an alarm will prevent dumb people from getting around your bike however if a thief wants to take your bike nothing will stop them. I had a scorpio i900 installed on my Daytona 675 and they still took it. The alarm is great and I got another just for piece of mind on my zx.
