Brand New Battery Issue

Hello everyone, Today I bought a brand new 12v Energizer AMG technology battery and i've filled it with the liquid that came with it, let it sit for a bit then placed the plastic seal and finally hooked it up to the charger.. my charger has 2 settings 2amp and 10amp. obviously i went with the 2amp to leave it for overnight charging. I came back to check up on it in 1 hour or so and the green charged light already came back! I thought for sure it would take at least 5 hours or to for it to charge it up. I hooked it up to the multi-meter (not removing from the charger yet.. and i'm getting a reading of 13.5v)

I'm afraid to unplug it from the charger since i've read that the 1st charge of the battery is the most important for battery life.

Can anyone tell me what might have been the problem? And is it normal for the battery to charge up that fast?? I still have it hooked upto the charger (It's an automatic charger so it wont over charge it)

P.S No it wasn't set to the 10amp charge if anyone was wondering I triple checked to make sure i was charging it on the 2amp

thanks!

It will be fine, you are doing everything right.
Leave it overnight on the 2 amp charge and it will be fine in the morning.
You have no problems.

Thanks I hope you are right.. I've charged another battery on it before but it took a few hours before the charged light came on. My friend borrowed the charger as well and it took a few hours for it to charge as well.. All 12v motorcycle batteries too. I guess i'll check up on it in the morning..

Just for reference.. how fast do they loose a charge? lets say say if the battery was fully charged and had a reading of 12.6v

a week of just sitting there would it go down to 12.5v or even less??

Thanks I appreciate the help

Hi user,
A new battery should be charged @ 10% for 3-4 hours.
2 amps is a little high but not a problem, and the battery could indeed charge fully in little more than an hour.
So that's all completely normal! Just drive it...
