Brake fluid on paint job

How damaging is it really? I heard it'll eat way your paint, but say if you spill a few drops will it start stripping the paint right away or does it need to sit a while? Can it also penetrate the clear coat? I plan on changing the fluid over winter but having never done it myself I'd rather not risk ****ing up my paint...

If you spill any on your paint wash it off with water immediately. It will discolor your paint fairly quickly and will take about a week or two before you see it flaking off and revealing the plastic underneath.

As long as you wipe it off and clean the area right away there will be no problem.

do you mean if it was left to sit for a week or two? Or if I wash it off right away it'll take a couple weeks for the full extent of damage to be visible?

Depends on what fluid your using, some will eat paint really quickly, others don't

Dot 3 or 4. Apparently the only one that doesn't is Dot 5.

Tip: use rags & paper towels to surround the reservoir. Cover tank with rags too.

Hose down bike immediately after work.

I left some fluid on a cabinet & after 24hrs it stripped the paint to metal. Never on a bike tho

I use racing DOT 4's and they do not eat paint. Im not sure about aftermarket paint, but as far as OEM paint goes they do not eat it. At least not within a few hours, Ive split it many times and never had it eat paint...

Keep some water close by. if you wash it off immediately you wont have a problem.

Earlier this year I was checking my brake fluid and I removed the cover on the reservoir. A few drops of brake fluid dripped on my tank. The paint started to bubble right away. It was incredible how fast it was reacting. I managed to wipe it off before it ruined the paint underneath. But the clearcoat was damaged.
