How difficult it is to swap oem calipers on 2003 zzr600E11 to nissin from 2000-2003 cbr600rr

I don't like performance of the original ones, too much maintenance

Don't waste your time

There are a number of easier, less-costly mods that will offer better results

1. change the brake fluid(if its the original fluid from 2003, its junk now)

2. Braided steel lines, This will be the BIGGEST improvement.

3. Radial master cyl(from newer 600cc sportbike) its a cheap, simple install and can be done when you do the lines and fluid replacement.

I agree it is the cheapest solution, probably start the project when rain season begins. Thanks for the advice. It is not the braking force is weak but they partualy seize after each storage. Extra info from previous owner. They will likely be taken apart for the first time. In terms of lines what do they contribute? I guess higher endpoint pressure.

Braided lines don't expand when heated, so the volume of space the fluid must occupy stays constant.

With rubber lines, even if the system is bled perfectly, you can have a rock hard lever at a stop, do 2 hard braking manouvers in a short period of time and the rubber lines will expand enough to make the lever feel like mush.

If the calipers are sticking, you MUST rebuild them now, I wouldn't ride the bike again until you resolve this.

They seem to work ok, no draging, one caliper has two pistons pushed in, the other two are fare out, I believe this one is using uneven pressure on both sides. The other side is fine. I only know this from inspecting them, took out back plate and looked inside. Does rebuild kit include pistons and where I can buy it? Does anybody make stainless pistons?

dont need to replace pistons, unless they are mared/galled up. just put new seals in and take it all apart and blow out the passageways with air....

Thanks for picture. I did not take pistons out yet. What are they made of steet or aluminum? Is there dust seal or piston rings only

I believe they are just regular steel, maybe with a zinc coating.

There are 2 seals, one is dust seal, one is a Oil/fluid seal.

WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT MAR/GALL/SCRATCH your pistons....

not the best pic....but you get the idea....

+1, do not use tools to pry to the pistons out, use air pressure only. And the lower the air pressure the better, otherwise you may get a piston lodged in your forehead.

Okay, further addendum - when removing the pistons, point away from face!

Early six piston calipers from GSXR1000 fit. But get the ,master cyl as well.....cuz youre stock master cyl won't move enough fluid for them.
Also, 03-04 CBR600 calipers fit as well, and do in fact work with your stock master cyl.

I wouldn't bother with changing calipers if you aren't going to do steel lines etc as well.

Six pots/pistons calipers that older Kawi's use are well known to be maintenance heavy. I have two sets for my bike, i just clean and swap them every year.

OP, you can also use SRAD calipers, you can pick them up for cheap and they are still be better than what you have now.

After doing a lil bit of research it turns out my oem calipers repair kit is 87b (only made by kawasaki). I decided to buy used nissin for 80 plus 30 new set of seals.
