BMW R 18 Roctane

Interesting and somewhat familiar design...

Looks confused somewhere between retro and sporty and isn’t pulling off either very well. Silly name also.

Silly name just like the launch of the other bike at the same time, the R12 NineT.

The "originals" of both models are better, the R18 and the R9T both in name and in design.
(impressions are subjective)

I think BMW needs to stand down on their lust for cruiser marketshare -- their stuff doesn't appeal to anyone other than bike photographers.

Maybe Harley having a boxhead at the helm has them irked.

I don't mind the look of it but like MM says if you're looking at this why not get a Hog.

I see your point but I haven't read anything about how it functions. Are the BMW's better performers than HD? I liked the look of the first one I saw that mimicked an old r series BMW, but at the time I wondered why not just build a more faithful representation of THEIR OWN history rather than a raked out interpretation of someone else's.

At this point in time I would think HD is comparable in quality to beemer.

Honestly, everyone tries to come out with a cruiser and eventually they all give up (I've got Triumphs version of it & love it). Outside of the other American brand with a historied past, Indian, I don't know why they even bother anymore to take on HD.

It doesn't matter that some may be better bikes in the end, the market just doesn't care overall for anything foreign in the cruiser segment.

Didn't they learn from the R1200C?
