Blue book for imports?

Ive sold my bike and looking to import from US. Question is if I buy a used bike and negotiate a low price to be placed on the bill of sale, ie: 1000$ is there a blue book at the border or is it the same scenario as at the MTO? Thanks.

Just be careful when putting a lower priced number on the bill of sale when importing.

For all the bikes i have imported, the agents have either contacted the seller OR went online to see what the bike was selling for originally.
If it doesnt add up, your in for a world of hurt.

Your asking for trouble if you want to list a deflated value for the vehicle. It will probably result in a lengthy Q & A session with CBSA agents. It is no fun, been there done that.

So its not as easy as the MTO? What would be a safe price to put down if I bought the bike for 8k? Thanks.

8K

What are other bikes going for? ball park it and keep it close to that general area. Make sure the seller's on the same page.

Good luck.

Yep. good advice there .

If they suspect something is going on, you might as well get comfortable cuz youll be there for a while.

Once I bought a bike here that still had a US title. The guy who imported it declared $1000 value, as far as the MTO knows I paid $5 for it. No issues so far.

They will ask you for a copy of the ad listing the price of the bike. If you dont have it they will make you wait while they search it on the internet. Really risky to make up a price. Last time they even searched for a price for a second time before we left the parking lot. They want those tax dollars bad! You used to pay one tax at the border and one at the mto. I don't know what the rule is with hst.

Is the tax paid at the border or MTO?

Both. AFAIK You pay the RIV fee plus GST at the border, then they hit you up for the difference at the MTO. I did it before the HST but it seems in this case they still do the PST/GST unless it's changed. The border collects for the feds, the MTO province.

I imported a 06 vfr in 09 I got for $5000US. Declared that at the border with full paperwork...

Ebay auction print out
Receipt
Title with amount on the back

They still sent me two letters a few months later wanting me to prove I paid $5000 for it.

I would imagine there is also nothing stopping them from calling the seller and act like someone looking to buy the bike. When the seller says it is sold, the caller simply feins disappointment and innocently asks what did he up selling it for. You think the seller will still say 1k?
