and dont tell me to get an iphone....

my Z10 totally fried (wet) and I have a new Z10, however in blackberry link you need to connect your old device to switch data to a new device, old device is dead, there is no ability to connect. Any body know a way around this?

Sorry, you at least have to be able to turn the phone on. Let it fully dry out for a few days and then try to turn I on. Your contacts and bbm can be restored remotely with your Blackberry ID and email.

And here illustrates the importance of backing up your device BEFORE it fries.

By the sounds of it, its too late. You can try asking the people at Crackberry.com, they have extensive knowledge of this stuff.

In the future, back up your device as often as possible! Its easy to do and doesn't take long. I even go to the extent of backing up my device on several computers in case one fails.

Anyways, I feel your pain, a few days ago I dumped a mug full of hot coffee all over my 3 week old macbook air! When I held it up and turned it sideways, coffee was dripping out from inside the case. I figured it was toast at this point. After a blow dry and a few hours of drying...... So far, since Im using it this very moment to type this response, everything is working ok, with the exception of a few sticky keys.

Sounds like it may be TOO late, but put your old wet phone in a ziploc bag filled with rice.

Leave it there for a few days. If it doesnt turn on when you pull it out, you may be SOL.

This is why I back my iPhone up on the cloud every night. It's automatic when I recharge it overnight when I connect to wireless.

Sorry I couldn't help with BB, but you should consider a cloud type of back up going forward in the future.

If you had Blackberry Protect enabled, you could try a restore from that?

Otherwise, Rice in a bag is your best solution.

Turns out my negligent attitude has caught up with me, I didnt back it up since i figured total loss was unlikely. Seems I may have to daycare this piece of gear more often.

Want real pain? I dont want top upgrade my Telus acct, since real competition in cell market may be coming, cost to purchase outright? $700. f'n dollars......

Won't be too long - they'll be giving BBRY products away.
Company has hired outside help to dissolve, or sell, or auction off the company. Last week they considered going private, but sales suck so bad, and monetary losses are so high, it's not a viable option.
The board member (who was brought in by Heins about a yr ago) with the "highest stake" (9.9 per-cent) in BBRY quit today (Prem Watsa).
They've fired or layed off over 5,000 employees.
Too bad another Cdn company is going to implode.
Welcome BBRY to the ranks of Bre-X, Nortel, (Sears anytime now) etc.
Too bad, so sad.
IMHO, they should have slammed the door in Hein's face and pressed on with Balsille and Lazaridis.

Even IF Verizon comes into Canada, it'll take a few years for them to get themselves established and start offering competition to the existing cartel. You shouldn't make decisions based on hypotheticals, especially low-probability, slow-rollout hypotheticals!

Those layoffs were not surprising and getting rid of a lot of excess that has bloated the old RIM.
As for Prem Watsa, they didn't quit, but left the board due to 'conflict of interest', implying there are other talks we're not aware of.

By no means am I saying they're not pooched, they're just not as pooched as the media have you believe.

.

Prem Watsa "quit" due to "conflict of interest ". He has not pulled all his shares.

Speculation is that he is interested in buying and/or taking the company private. Apparently, Canada Pension Plan is in on this too.

No one said Fairfax / Watsa sold any shares. Conflict of interest is because Fairfax Financial (which is Watsa's baby) has taken a number, and are in the ('not too long' a) line up of potential buyers.
Taking the company private is "so last week" - not going to happen.
So we've got CPP interested (that's the biggest f'n joke yet), we've got Fairfax Financial now thrown into the mix.
We've got IBM, Google, Salesforce and a couple more "high-flyers" 'interested'(?)
Lennovo is VERY interested in buying BBRY, but the USA DOD will have to 're-invent' themselves, so they (Govt of Canada) won't let any Chinese company takeover.
I'm sticking with my original prediction - Qualcomm will buy BBRY.

This guy is selling a brand new one for even cheaper, its already a Telus phone, and throwing in a bonus to boot......

i do wish I paid more attention, that was $250 less than I just spent.
My phone is a needed tool for my work, so even though it gets lots of recreational use, being "unconnected" is very expensive for me. I hate coughing up , but not getting the phone wet may be smarter in the future......

I remember arguing witht these guys that BB is gonna flop, the z10 wouldn't do anything. I hate to say this but I was right

BB hasn't flopped, it's market share has doubled in the last few months. That is to say, since the introduction of the Z10, meaning it has done something!

How exactly do you support your conclusions?

I just heard BB has suspended trading of stock pending sale of the company? anybody else hear this rumour and does it have legs?

Any way you slice it, it doesn't look good.

I doubt it's pending sale, they've probably just gone private: http://techcrunch.com/2013/08/09/bl...-dell-in-a-bid-to-refocus-with-less-scrutiny/
