Hello!

My bike just turned 30 (I'm a new rider) its a smaller bike Yamaha sr185. My insurance company that I have my car insured with (TD MELOCHE MONNEX) gave me a quote of 700/year last year but now that it is 30 they will not insure it. e

I called over 15 companies the last few days and 12 of them will not insure it due to its age, the rest 3 will at 3200 a year (WTF) I asked them how much they would of insured it a year ago and they said 600-800.

How does a bike get a quote for 700 one year and 3200 the other year.

What are some good companies to insure a bike this age for? I see older bikes around the city all the time, no way they are paying these crazy premiums.

Jevco is now Intact. Intact will insure vintage bikes but they require photos and a recent safety certificate. Dalton Timmis will insure old bikes with Aviva. Also try Desjardins.

I have Wawanesa through http://jamesinsurancebroker.com/ in bowmanville for my 1978 GS550. Not sure how old you are but I'm 33 or if that makes a difference.

Pay like $500 a year.

I had to get a safety before they would insure it though.

I'm 26 yrs o old, been driving a car for 10 years. No tickets/no accidents/no claims....I called all the companies above that you guys have listed (I appreciate your time btw :) ) and they all gave me crazy quotes that are more than triple the value of the bike per year. What a bunch of theives. Whenever I ask them why its so expensive they say its because the bike is 30 yrs old, ...so I got a quote for a 2005 Ninja 250 and they gave me 1/3 the price. MAKES NO SENSE!

i'm paying $106/month with state farm for 3 bikes over the age of 30 (1974 cb450, 1980 sr500, 1979 sr500).

i'm 29, with no accidents, no claims, 1 driving violation (improper left turn).

Hey, I drive a very old bike too! I ride a 1980 Honda GL500 Silverwing. I just got this bike a few weeks ago. I must have tried 20 insurance companies. The 2 cheapest for me were State Farm who came in at $1200 a year and Riders Plus who came in at $840 a year(as long as I took the motorcycle safety course). So thats what i did. I paid $425 for the course and now my insurance is only $70 a month. I am 36 with a perfect driving record for 20 years and had never been on a motorcycle until I took the course. I would try Riders Plus if I were you.

I'm surprised at riders plus, I thought they only did bikes under 25 years old.

Just spoke to Mike 1.877.251.4504, ext. 124 at Riders Plus. They insure bikes back to 1970. I got the best quote with them for my 72 CB350, $467/yr liability. No appraisal, safety or photos required. I'm going with them.
