Hi guys, got a bit of a problem my bike wont start. the last time i had it running it was running fine and that was jan 13 so it has sat since. i ride a 92 gsx-r so you all know its carbbed. it wants to start it rolls right over and sometimes it did start but would die right away like probably one second after hearing the engine start up. it backfires at times really really loud spitting out flame from my exhaust(im told its not a backfire when its in the exhaust) so its kinda freaking me out. also i have added new gas cuz i thought since i didnt put stabilzer in jan when i left it to sit that perhaps the gas was bad cuz it has been the same tank of gas since november that also has not helped. ive tried to bump start it aswell and had the best progress thus far as it will start right up but die as soon as i stop running with it and let the clutch out(not kick stand) it jus dies.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Is your battery dead/dying?

Although that wouldn't solve your spitting flame problem...

it wasnt dead before i killed it trying to get it going. i jumped it from there and still tried to start. also the spitting flame part isnt an issue once it starts that issue is gone thats jus caused from built up fuems due to the non start

You probably want to post this on the technical forum

You may have flooded the carb so wait a couple of hrs and try again, just choke and no gas
if that's not it (but i bet it is)

It can be many things, none of them should freak you out.

1- Bad gas, did you remove the old gas or did you just add new gas?
2- Spark Plugs, try putting new ones

If I was you, I would wait until it is warmer, unless you are planning to ride right now

2- Stand kill switch - it may be getting stuck with the cold

So put the bike back inside, remove all the gas and put new gas, clean the stand switch and push the sensor in a few times then change your spark plugs and see what happens

Edit: if the bike us backfiring then forget about the kickstand switch.

You may have also flooded the carb so wait a couple of hrs and try again, just choke and no gas

so spark plugs could be my problem??? cuz i was touching my intake cylinders and they were still cold all of them

these things are sensitive dude, my guess is you should check your plugs and cables too. Mine does that when I try to start it cold too dude.

I wouldn't tear the carbs out yet but make sure your gas is fresh. sometimes a month is all that it takes, happen to me before.

drain the gas in your carb bowls too and see if there's some varnish in your gas, that should tell you if you need to strip her down.

My ex used to put full choke and then apply gas when trying to start her 250 cold, the result was a flooded carb, you were probably doing the same

Let the bike sit until tomorrow and then try again, don't give it gas this time

then try the spark plugs

And make sure your battery's charged after this ^^^

Is your fuel valve turned on, not prime or reserve.
Are you using the choke?
They foul realy easy in this weather, your carbs arnt set for this.
That being said DO NOT twist the grip, not even once. If you have fouled it then you need to change the plugs.

naw i dont do that i rarely touch the throttle when starting . you could be right abouth the spark plug thing tho. and i have already put new gas in. the gas i suspect was old there was barely
any in it , it was pretty much ready for me to switch to reserve

i have a feeling its the spark plugs guys. it would make sense, i also touched all four to see if it was warm or hott all four was ice cold. i never really thought that could be it cuz it did start a few times once jus trying to start normally and twice when i ran with it to bump start it so i thought since it did start even no it was for a split second it couldnt be the plugs

I think the reason it won't start is a few factors combined together. Battery / Spark plug problem or just cold temperatures. You may want to try a method i used a few years back with a carbureted bike. I placed a small portable heater beside my bikes crankcase for about 3 hours and it started right up.
