Bike wont start

When I try to start my bike, I get a clicking/buzzing sound from under the seat. At first it was struggling to turn over ever so slowly, but its just a loud clicking/buzzing sound now

Battery was replaced last year. I also removed it and tried to charge it just in case, but it was fully charged when I hooked it up, so that cant be the issue. I tried cleaning and tightening it quickly, but that didn't help.

Ive had issues with it turning over a couple times in the past few weeks. I just jump started it and it was fine temporarily, but now I just get the clicking. I haven't tried jump starting it since. I dont want to be in a position where I go out and get stuck and have to deal with towing it...

My gauges also flicker, and I had to replace my headlights (they crapped out at the end of the riding season last year) a month ago, only to have the burn out again (low and then high beams) within a week. When the headlights were in, they were also flickering noticeably. Ive just been riding during the day for the past month, but as the weather gets warmer, ill be riding later... These two issues may be related but I suspect a separate fix for each.

The bike is definitely in need of a tune up, so that may also have something to do with it. Sometimes when i accelerate, it feels like only 3 cylinders are firing properly, but most the time when it ran, it was fine.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this. I hope I provided enough info, but if not, feel free to ask.

Check voltage on the battery...sounds like it's dead again. If the voltage is good (high 12s or low 13s) then try turn it over and see what happens to the voltage. If it drops lower than 10 while turning over then the battery is probably toast.

If you said it was fully charged and it's clicking now, you may have a bad starter motor or parasitic draw (draining your battery while it's off).

Also, charge it up and see if the bike starts. If it does, check voltage when you give it throttle - it should rise and top out at 14ish...that will tell you if your charging system and regulator/rectifier are working.

Physically check the battery for bulges or deformation.

No doubt about it, you bought a crap battery and its dead again. Time for a new one

Your battery is shot, time for a new one again. I found the AGM batteries for CT last about a month. Not uncommon to need a new battery every year, replace it and check the charging of the bike 14v at 4000 rpm. Royal Distributing is the cheapest place to get a battery or Flying Squirrel in TO.

more details plz....bike, year ect

2000 R6

I didn't maintain the battery over the winter, and just charged it up at the beginning of the season. It seems strange that its the battery died so soon, but if that's the general consensus then Ill rerun some tests on it and order a new one if that's the case.

Any thoughts on the flickering/dimming lights issue?

Thanks for the quick turnaround too :)

Try Boosting it 1st.....if it starts its your Batt, if not you got other problems...if you said it sounded like its running on 3 cylinder you have problems.....

If it was left out in the cold over the winter, the battery may have frozen which is not good.

Flickering/dimming may indicate your charging system isn't working...or bad connections/ground.

Running rough or on 3 cylinders - did you not maintain just the battery or the whole bike? (fuel stabilizer in a full tank?) Swap out the plugs, get the carbs cleaned and get new gas in it. Probably get the carbs sync'd while the carbs are being cleaned. Check the ignition system and your spark plug caps for proper resistance. Depending on mileage, get your valve clearances checked too.

lol the maintenance will cost as much as your bike if you're not doing it on your own.

Good luck

Or get a battery, check the charging system and ride it, if it is not running better after the 2nd tank start looking at things. If it is due for a carb synch or clearance check get those done ASAP. A lot of carb bikes run poorly until you get fresh fuel in everything and the easiest way to do this is to ride it. Also a bike will not run right with a bad battery, get a tender and your battery will make it a couple of seasons. Cold does not hurt batteries they cannot freeze when charged, but being dischared and cold does.

Get your electrical system checked out. Sounds like you might have regulator and/or stator problem. If you're burning out headlights, there's likely a problem with the regulator. The regulator maintains the system voltage, and if it isn't working properly then your whole electrical system would be getting too much voltage. Hook up a multi-meter if you have one and check the voltage at various points in your system while it's running.

Too much voltage (more than 14v) then your regulator is toast.
Too little voltage (less than 12v) then it's the charging system.
