8500 km (slept in a garage for 1.5-2 seasons)

I just changed the oil/filter, cleaned the chain, new rubber, brakes/fluid and started riding. (need more rad fluid but thats easy)

the manual says: (between 8000-16000km)

-- Emissions
-- Air suction
-- idle speed (with a vacuum tester?? jezuz)

Valve check at 24000km so i doubt i even have to think about that.

but what else would you suggest i need to check?

Should i worry about emissions/suction and idle?

idles fine when warm..as far as i can tell.

Completely my fav bike yet, i want to keep er for more than a season. Want to treat her well.

Myself, i would do the air filter. ( never know what gremlins youll find)

And the plugs ..

aha! good call.

i didnt even think of those guys.

I read in the manual "check the plugs - clean and gap"
if i just replace them, do i need to worry about this "gap" term?

If you had a full tank of gas in it when it was parked then you shouldn't be worry about rust, but if you didn't check the gas tank!

plugs: now im scared

www.z1000forum.com/forum/z1000-service-maintenance/117861-changing-spark-plugs.html

basically they are impossible to get out without dropping motor.

so considering its basically a new bike...can i forget trying to change em? or maybe check the outer plugs if they look good, then **** it leave it...if black, then worry?

Well according to that forum, if the bike is equipped with the plug removal tool it is easier.

Ive never seen how tight it is on z1000 to remove a plug. It cant be any worse than the RR ..

i have the tool kit, but regardless they are saying Z's are notorious for this...even the new ones!

oh well, nothing more fun than pints and wrenching...well aside from riding.

Just have the following on hand.
1. Patience
2. Lots of different socket extensions
3. Beer ( or drink of choice)
4. Patience

I know the first time i did the plugs on the RR, i cursed it to death.

And be very organized with everything, screws parts, etc. people tent to forget that a good clear space makes a good difference.
