Bike purchase

Well I made the big step on the weekend at the show and bought a brand new 2012 Ninja 250R.

Now I have to go out and get my license and take the course.

Thanks for all the info on these pages in helping me make the correct purchase. I had a couple of friends say I should have gone larger than the 250 but I was like nope everyone is saying the 250 is the perfect first bike.

So cheers to all that give info and feedback on this Site so that noobs can make educated decisions.

The 250 is pretty nice for a first bike, I still remember taking one for a demo ride and having to do 120 to keep up with the leader haha.

Got up to speed nice, aside from being a bit buzzy it was nice :)

Topped at 170 for me so for the most part I didn't have trouble keeping up ;)...again for the most part lol

I think it also depends on your size and weight.
I'm about 5'11" and 190 lbs. So when i use to get on my 250, I pretty much doubling its weight. I found the 250 would have to work very hard with me on it. It was a good bike to get started on though. Got me the confidence I needed for a bigger bike. But I was glad that i bought a used one. I flipped it after 6 weeks and moved onto a bigger bike.

How you ever got that thing to go 170 is beyond me, unless you had some bottle rockets crammed where the sun doesn't shine perhaps...

but that being said, it's a more than capable first bike, I kept mine for a couple years and put over 30k on it without any trouble.

Me too. 140 is easy... 150 is hard.

Yeah I was talking about flat. I got almost to 160 downhill in tuck too a few times. I guess it is possible. There's a couple members here with some intake/carb/exhaust work done that were taking off on me when I was going 150.

fastest I ever saw indicated was 160, and that was downhill with a tailwind, full tuck.

Nop bike was all stock. I weighed maybe between 150-160 lbs then. The old 250s had an alluminum frame so they were lighter from the current generation 250's.
It didn't go beyond 170, it topped at 170.

ahhh, so you had a pregen -07. I heard they made a little more power so that could have been it too. I had a 2010.

Correct they were lighter and had a bit more power. Put all those factors together and you have the right temp wind etc...will add that extra 10 kmh ;) lol

I topped at about 170 on my 2010 Ninja 250.... But then again im 5'6 and 130lbs. Less drag and weight :)

I got 170 on my cbr250 and its not as powerful as the ninja. You guys must be big.

should have gone bigger :)

Congrats on the purchase. I also bought a 250 for my first bike and it is excellent for city traffic; I've only been on the highway once and was cruising effortlessly at 120 (I am 200 lbs).

Good luck on the course.

Congrats on the bike! And more importantly, for not giving in to "peer pressure". Take the course; get your license and enjoy your ride!

Congrats on the purchase and not listening to what your friends said.

Didnt realize the difference in top speed between the CBR125 and Ninja 250 was only 20-30km/h O_O
