Bike mileage

Hi
I would like to buy a bike but how do I know if bike has true
mileage recorded. Is owner is able to change mileage or disable
it when he buy before selling bike again. for instance, I am looking for 2009 Yamaha Virago or V Star. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

No they're not allowed to change the odometer, its illegal! .

^Just because something is illegal doesn't mean some people wont do it. Happens all the time.

well its very unlikely , ministry records the odometer anytime a vehicle is purchased, sold, etc .

no offence to honest peoples but basically what owner is saying doesn't mean is right for instance 2009 old bike with 2000 km mileage is too good to be true.

Yes, mileage fraud is technically possible. You have to inspect the bike to check wear items - tires, rubber parts on pegs/shifter, etc. Seller's story, paperwork. See if it all matches, or any inconsistencies pop up. There are bikes out there with low mileage...

This happens all the time. People buy a bike, ride it once or twice, then realize it's not for them, life is too busy, or whatever and sell it. I just bought a 2003 vstrom with 14000km, that's under 1500 km/year. Go check it out, it's not likely that they changed the mileage.

^ I agree it's not too likely, but it is possible. Many true low mileage bikes out there. My drz had 4000km and was 6 years old. Like someone said before, take a look and see if the condition reflects the mileage shown.

The reason I brought it up is because someone I knew years ago bragged about how he would swap the cluster (for a lower mileage one) on his bikes with a used oem one before sale...
