Best thing about Best Buy (aka Worst Buy) = Product Replacement Plan

Almost two years ago I bought a Go Pro 720 from Best Buy and spent $30 on a 2 year warranty. After hours and hours of video taking, a handful of crashes (including a rolling tumble by falling off the bike itself), bestbuy has given me all my money back via store credit, including HST, for the camera.

Sure, it was a $30 rental for two years, but since they take things back with no questions asked, even if it is 100% working condition, I fully promote spending the money for the Product Replacement Plan (PRP) on whatever gizmos you buy. Unfortunately, it is not available on all items. I used this when I bought guitar hero bundle and added a $25 PRP.... 2 years later, guitars totally unusable and useless, I get the product value + hst back... come to think of it, I put that towards my Go Pro lol.

HOWEVER..... do not mistake this with the Product Service Plan (PSP) which will allow for up to three repair attempts (for the same defect/error) provided there is no water damage on a device. If it is not fully repaired after 3 attempts you will be issued a replacement. If the replacement is not available, you will be given your value back via store credit. So they'll string you along as long as they can until you make enough noise (from my own experience) and be a big enough pain in the *** to Best Buy AND the third party service station that they do issue your credit refund.

PRP = Good
PSP = Bad

good to know. Kinda scummy, but hey I'm sure their auditors will can the program if they're not making any money out of it, so whatever.

Seems like there's a catch. Ill try to dig up old receipts I'm a sucker for that stuff

Costco will do this for electronics you buy form them without paying an extra $30. Took my garmin back after 11 months and they gave me full refund.

costco seems to have the best policies....also warranty doubles if you buy using your american express card...

Good info.

Somethings amiss...

If you are right - what stops me from buying a $2000k TV today - Intentionally taking a hammer to it a year from now and expecting my money back or an equivalent match?

They have tried to sell me this PRP repeatedly, but I have my reservations as it just does not make business sense. As the age old adage goes.. if it's too good to be true, it probably is...

If you take a hammer to it they wont refund you because you intentionally broke it. Plug it into a 220v socket to fry the internals and then take it in and say it doesnt work. Money back. Hell, costco never even checked to see in my GPS did or didnt work. They just refunded me.

The only thing available on an item like a TV is the PSP..... the PRP is available on smaller gizmos, like pocket digital cameras and the GO Pro.

The PSP is garbage. But I've used the PRP dozens of times. Also be clear to say "is this the PSP or PRP?" because 99% of the employees won't know the difference.
