Best route to take to Front Royal

Hi everyone,

Myself and 2 buddies are taking our first trip down to Deals Gap on Monday and I'm unsure about the best way to get to Front Royal. I've read a lot of ride reports and it seems like there is a lot of fun twisty roads in Allegheny and Elk State Forest.

I was thinking of taking 219 to Allegheny then hit up 66 and 666. From there we would get back on the 219 all the way down to the Canaan Valley State Park and cut east over to Front Royal via 93/55. We are leaving at 7am out of Burlington so this should give us plenty of time to get to Front Royal by a decent time.

I've read 555, 44, 144 are awesome roads but I don't see how we can hit up 66 and 666 + those roads and make it into Front Royal at a decent time. For anyone that has done this trip, would you choose one route over the other? We like to ride somewhat fast and want to avoid boring flat interstate roads at all costs.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

666 has been closed for several weeks. 44 and 144 are more fun anyway.

219 all the way down if you want to go slowly, about 9 hours from Toronto.

Enjoy

I planned on taking 219 down a lot of the way but was hoping for some fun side roads. We definitely don't want to go slow...Does 219 have a lot of traffic/cops etc?

219 in NY state is a heat score. I counted 6 speed traps between Ellicottville and the Pennsylvania border last weekend. Once your in PA it gets much better but you're still going through towns.

You can route East of Springville and take 16 south, it avoids a lot of the traffic small towns.

Oh, and aim for Renovo PA and take 144 up and over the mountain. You will be glad you did.

What he said but go out of Coudersport on 44/144 to Renovo and continue on 144 south of town - you will not regret it. The section 20 km north of Renovo is superb.

On the way back try for Wykoff Run - hard to mix them.

44/144 may be rough the first section out of Coudersport from 6....just deal with it.....it's worth it.

Some stuff here as well

Don't get stupid in New York - reciprocity and not much to get excited about.

There is little cell service in PA wilds so make sure you have an alternative nav program that does not need cell.

The frost last winter really potholed the crap out of 219 so is a bit bumpy with all the fixing. Its also very heavily patrolled Buffalo to the Springville bypass, there is so much golf/ski/fish/drinking traffic into Ellicottville. South of Alcoholville there seems to be less police.
