Best local country food stops.

Thought I would start the thread to see what else comes up.

Lots of great places for food downtown, but once you get out past the 'burbs, you have to know where you are going. the Shed and Hockley General are fine destinations, but there is a lot out there.

Three places I can say are worth the stop are:

1. Fresh cut fries at the garden center at Hwy 9 and Tottenham Rd. Their poutine and ther burger made of grilled cheese sandwiches (a la burgers priest) is epic.
2. Michael's Bakery in that strip mall in Nobleton has some of the best porchetta sandwhiches around, and serves a proper Italian espresso.
3. The Grackle Coffee Co. in Schomberg, people even ride bicycles there just for the hermit cookies. Serious about their ice cream as well.

That italian bakery in Caledon East does a passable chicken parma sandwich, but it's no California.

Anywhere else in the country?

Not sure i'd call it 'the best', but a good stop while on a boot would be Foxy's chip truck-north of River Road just off Airport at County Road 21- ask for extra crispy fries.
Pizza Friday in Cheltenham at http://www.spirittreecider.com/our-bakery.html
Mono Cliffs in in Mono- down in Peter Cellar's Pub- we got a great curry potato dish there. The place is classier than i thought it would be.

Northway Restaurant & Truck Stop. 2493 Hwy 11 N, Oro Station. Halfway between Barrie and Orillia. Old school greasy spoon. Cheap delicious food & good service.

My new favorite stop on the way back from the Kawarthas is the Rose Family Farm near Mt Albert http://www.rosefamilyfarm.ca/

Poutine & strawberries. Chip truck & picnic tables. Only open on the weekends though, and watch the gravel driveway.

Giffens Country Market @ Glen Huron. Store, post office, bakery and restaurant. Has the feel of last century. And, of course, the Ice House in Campbellville.

Muddy's Pit Barbeque in Keene. They do blues music on weekends.
Hy Hope Farm on Lakeridge Rd. South of Goodwood. They've got a barbecue going most days, with homemade sausage. Served by a cute blonde girl from Poland...;)
Maple Leaf Pancake House in Smithville. Good, solid diner.
Butter Tarts n' More in Little Britain. Great baked goods...butter tarts are unreal.

There's a place called Yannis up in Midland. On hwy 12 west of the 400. Business card says 12738 County Road 16, Fesserton. Pretty great Greek food, and have a salad bar. It looks dungie from outside, but it's a hidden gem.

Had the breakfast to write about today at a place called "hometown diner" In Alliston, across from the high school. :p Was told by another customer that if you liked the breakfast you should try the home made hamburger..can't wait to stop by there again to try it , if it has attention to detail like the breakfast (Nana's homemade jam on the side) it must be great! Kinda place you see on the food network..gotta eat here or diners, drive-ins and dives :)
