Belstaff gear source in GTA?

I've been looking for some Belstaff riding gear, particularly a tourist or trialmaster jacket with armour, or removable armour, but the places I've been to only stock the fashion stuff.

Four questions would be:

1. Know where to get Belstaff gear in GTA?

2. If you have ordered from British Motorcycle Gear in the US, can you vouch for them?

3. Anyone have an old Trialmaster in the basement they'd care to part with? I will refurb it myself.

4. If you wear one of these, how well does your body armour fit under the Barbour International?

Any experience appreciated.

You might be out of luck friend. I've tried. No to Toronto. No to Canada. Heck, none really in the U.S. as far as I can tell.

I lived in London for four months last year, and it wasn't all that easy to find Belstaff even there! Their flagship stores stock mostly the fashion stuff. The best shop to purchase Belstaff gear is Urban Rider in London (they ship internationally and VAT is removed - you won't have to pay it): http://www.urbanrider.co.uk/

However, do you really want to drop $500-$900 on a jacket you can't even try on? I tried on many, and while they are great, I would hesitate ordering online if you've never tried it on.

Just my two cents.

Also, be aware of online knock-offs: there are plenty of fake websites selling "Belstaff" motorcycle jackets.

Frankly, I've concluded that Belstaff (now an Italian-owned-and-based company) only wants celebrities to wear the gear - not you and me. Impossible to find and a pain-in-the-rear with which to deal.

Good luck.

There's a jacket sale at Sturgess

Have you guys tried visiting Delphic in the Trinity Bellwoods area? It's a fashion shop but you could ask if they've got a line on Belstaff jackets as they've carried them before.

Thank you to all who have responded. I will pop by Motorrad in the next few weeks to see what they have and update here if I ever find one to get. Delphic only carried the fashion non-bike stuff, and Klaxon Howl, while very cool, only had a fashion jacket that provided no more protection than my old Barbour.

Wrt Belstaff only wanting celebrities to wear their gear and not you and me, how do you know I'm not a celebrity? ;) (Other than that the company hasn't already sent me a free jacket)

Still thinking of britishmotorcyclegear.com as an alternative if I can get a reference, since I think they are US based, and ~%30 import duty on european clothing may not apply.

Sorry Mr. Pitt, I didn't know you cruised the GTA Motorcycle Forums!

Also, I know of two people who bought from britishmotorcyclegear.com and had no problems. Also, they seem to have been around for a bit. You should have no problems. But, since Motorrad probably has jackets in stock, check them first if only for sizing issues. Happy shopping.

FYI: I checked BMW Toronto last week for Belstaff jackets. They have a tiny section right when you walk through the doors. I think I counted 5 different jackets in total. Very small selection, and while I like Belstaff gear, there wasn't a jacket in stock I wanted. A selection for show, not at all fully stocked for a serious buyer.

BellStaff wax cotton jackets are well worth the price when it comes to keeping dry. I've been wearing them on and off since the 80s and they are the best for all weather protection. They have been under an Italian designer for some time now so their focus is fashion. You can get several deals online if you time it right. The UK stuff fits true to chest size and tends to be boxy.

Barbour is a cheaper alternative but they aren't made with the armor.

If you want a waxed cotton jacket or suit you could try trophycycleapparel.com (a Canadian source) for a basic black Barbour (the original waxed cotton motorcycle jacket), britishmotorcyclegear.com (US) for a basic Barbour or Belstaff wax without armour or you could go to Aerostich (aerostich.com) in the US for their wax cotton Falstaff jacket which is patterned on their Darien jacket but in wax cotton and has modern shoulder, elbow and back armour and some hi-vis reflectors as well as venting and other features. Another outlet in Canada which lists wax cotton jackets and pants for motorcyclists is londontradingpost.ca - their suits do not seem to have armour.

My older Belstaff, made before the firm changed into Italian hands (I believe it has recently been sold again to a new owner elsewhere), has padded shoulders and elbows but no separate armour pieces. I gather that the "suits" made by Belstaff for the "Long Way Down" gang had armour but were not wax proofed.

Barbour are making a replicas of the original 6-pocket Barbour International jackets and a line of bright coloured nylon jackets in "International" style as part of their 75th anniversary of making motorcycling clothing - but how to get one of them (or even find a dealer who stocks them) in Canada appears to be a problem.

I've dealt with britishmotorcyclegear.com a couple times and they're great to deal with, great service and very reliable. As already mentioned, Belstaff was bought out by an italian fashion company a few years back that focuses more on fashion than riding, but they still have what they call their 'pure motorcycle line', ie. more durable materials and built in armour, which is what they sell from bmg.com. I bought a tourist trophy jacket and it's great, although I tend to wear it off the bike rather than on cuz it's so nice and I have leather for the bike.

I'm still going back and forth since Stollery's has the International, as did Jonothan + Olivia over on Ossington. Still like the idea of the Belstaff but it's a bit pricier.

Try the "Coop" store on Yonge Street, a half dozen streets north of Lawrence, on the East side. They are a discount high-end mens wear store but have legit Belstaff motorcycle riding jackets as well as the motorcycle-styled jackets available at Harry Rosen.
