Just finished my basement and pre run the cable line through the walls to tv and the dummys who installed fibe tv were told to hookup the line I left hanging right by the panel but of course they didn't.My question is can I splice and split the live line?I think its just basic cable line cause they used all the existing cables and it's easy enough but wondering if it will affect the other tv on that line.

Thanks in advance for any help

I just went Bell FibeTV. Main receiver and TV worked. Second receiver had problems and after 3 tech visits, inside the wall they found the cable hooked to a splitter (which I'm keeping as a souvenir). Second receiver works after splitter was removed.
If you mess with the Fibe cable...who knows.
I'm staying tuned to see what happens in your scenario.

Hi pearlzzzzz, that is what my concern is.The cables are just regular coaxial cables so I dont see why I can't split the line I even have an extra box for the tv.The hookup was done outside only not touching all the original cables throughout the house.I tried googling but nothing so hopefully someone will know

Does the existing coaxial cabling go to the panel?

If you mean the panel outside the house yes it does the tech did no running of new cables throughout the house at all,I believe all he did was a connection outside thats it

So you ran a new coax to the same location as the existing lines?
Then just swap out whatever splitter is there for a larger one. Or if you arent using all the cable outlets in the house, disconnect one and connect your new line to that output on the existing splitter.

The line used within the house is just coax that can be split. The fibre only goes into the main bell unit, then it's coax to every other box from there.

Using a larger splitter is preferable to splitting a line that's already been split off the main feed.

Normal splitters won't work with digital signals.

Thanks guys for the replies but guess I'll just call bell in to hook it up.I could try the split but with my kids if the tv or internet were to go down for longer then a millisecond they start jonesing right away and no GTAM that could be painful LOL

Thanks again Newman

I have many many times. Works great.

Unless your using a splitter with a built in filter there is no issues.

I lol'd too. ;)

He's is actually kinda right. RG6 or higher should be used when running digital cable. Anything lower and digital signals could be compromised. Typically you loose sound quality first then the picture strength then the guide.

just to clarify things bell tech came this morn and hooked up the cable I had left although we had to connect directly to the main splitter outside the house in the panel which is a four way he had a few issues which as we had found a secondary cheapo splitter on the second floor which was causing a few issues I didn't even realize...pixelization on other tv hooked to it but it was functioning I asked and he said YES you can split a line although it has to be compatable he mentioned it should be NPholland type.

So I gotta give props to N3WMAN
