I just was on a trip through West Virginia and needed to stop at a motel. It seems that the "fracking" craze has now extended into West Virginia. So what you say, well it seems that every budget motel room in northern West Virginia has been block booked by Halliburton and it's partners.We spoke to the manager of a Super Eight and he assured us that all over northern West Virginia this is the case. So when you are planning on a tour to West Virginia or Penn. you might want to make a reservation ahead of the time, we were forced into a much more expensive place because in this town in the middle of nowhere all the affordable rooms were already booked. So just don't assume that you will be able to grab a room anywhere even if it is Tues. night, some driller from Oklahoma has already booked it, for the next 6 months.

Have been to south Ohio and Northern WV a couple of times in that past few months (Massilion area). The Fracking isn't putting much $ into the regions. They are still quite depressed. When we were there, lots of lodging available and pretty cheap still, ~$80 per night.
Not sure if Fracking is seasonal? Maybe we beat the rush?
