Bancroft hwy 28 - wtf??

@GreyGhost made two posts in the fallen rider's forum about this, but since those posts aren't for discussion I thought I'd start one here.

I was heading into Bancroft yesterday and missed this by only minutes... I was pulling up to the line of traffic when the first air ambulance arrived. Trying to find info about the crash all I could find was details about Saturday's crash and I couldn't believe another happened in almost exactly the same spot :/

It's the second multi-fatal crash on the same eight kilometre section of Highway 28 in four days. Two drivers were killed following a three-motorcycle collision in Faraday, near Bancroft, on Saturday. LINK

It must just be pure coincidence that both happened so close to each other in such a short time span - this stretch of road is pretty good visibility wise and both days had clear weather.

Be SAFE riding out there guys!!! The Highlands are a very popular bike route and the roads are super busy these days with cottage traffic.

I have no explanation on why two major wrecks on open roads so close together. Yesterday's crash was apparently a moron cage driver that pulled in front of a truck which sent vehicles flying everywhere and may have been unavoidable by the other vehicles/mcs. The earlier crash with three mc's is hard not to expect some fault on the riders. Harley train? Why are they so close together that three got involved? No accidental crash should ever have more than two bikes involved.

Those are very straight sections of 28. I was on it during the Monday of the Canada Day long weekend, and didn't notice abnormally high traffic on my way home. The accident by the dairy sounds like people seeing the Ice Cream sign at the last minute and slamming on their brakes to make the turn, taking the person behind them by surprise. Possibly a similar situation for the one making a turn into a side street, unless someone fell asleep.

Was just on that section of 28 today. Lots of absent minded driving behaviours around Bancroft and it’s a Wednesday. So many people trying to overtake on solid yellow lines with poor visibility and then having to cut back into their lane.

Met a tow truck driver today up near Calabogie who was the primary tow responder to all these recent moto incidents. That guy has some emotional stress.

At a safety seminar it was pointed out that country roads, while seeming tranquil, can be dangerous. The locals aren't used to traffic and ignore stop signs and proper turn protocols.

In the city parking lots are lethal. Target fixation. Granny sees a good parking spot near the door and floors it, making a beeline, tunnel vision.
