What a waste of money...

Eh, it seems like these guys are having fun building them. I kinda wanna see this race, I really hope there will be footage of it somewhere

Edit: I didn't realize this was happening at Laguna Seca. This WILL be entertaining

As someone that likes and has performance bikes but has also owned baggers I’m into it. I think it’s cool they are doing something different. Also the whole “performance” bagger trend has been taking off the past couple years. Let’s see how some guys get the big bikes around the track.

@TK4 for a guy that seems to really dislike Harley you sure post about the brand a lot.

I don't dislike Harleys, they are very good at lots of things.
BTW, there's an Indian entered as well.
What I find ridiculous is the amount of time and money spent on what is essentially on one event.
How many $$$ did it take to build the featured bike, a hundred grand ?

I think this whole concept is cool as f***, same as the big rig racing in Germany.

Yup, the sheer absurdity and stupidity of the whole thing makes it entertaining. Besides, all racing is trying to ride a vehicle to the limit that complies with the class rules. Not all race classes are RR bikes so why not baggers too?

13 starters, 10 finishers (9 on the lead lap). Indians 1st and 3rd, at least one bike had the stereo still installed and working.
Lap times would have put them in the back half of the Sport Twins class.

Too bad Bostrom didn't finish

I know you guys aren't into Harleys, but "power" baggers is a thing. There was a turbo bagger in that field, and it actually finished.
Can YOU build a bagger that does 2nd gear power wheelies?

...but someone should introduce these guys to a wind tunnel. The batman fairing has to have half the drag of the Indian front sail, and a bunch of them have no bottoms on the bags. Less dragging on the ground but much more turbulence.

That was pretty good! Check out Hayden Gillim backing it in in a Harley @ 7:40.

If they hold it again, I imagine the rules would be more thoroughly hammered out. Would that make it more, or less interesting?

It was a fun race to watch. I'm surprised HD kept up with the Indian bikes so well. The stroke and the firing order on the Harleys always has them running a three-legged race. I'm sure more aerodynamic fairings could be a thing in a race, but in real life they're designed to displace air away from the rider, not necessarily to slip through the wind efficiently.

It must have been a pretty comfy race for the riders with those big fairings vs some of the super-race bikes we normally see. Could probably do a 24hrs at LeMans style race with baggers.
