Bad Driving

Walking down Bay from Gerrard to Front yesterday around 4:00 PM, I was casually watching the traffic and couldn't believe the number of inconsiderate, boneheaded, and downright dangerous moves I saw drivers make.
  • Driver makes an illegal left from Richmond west onto Bay south, using the pedestrian crosswalk to negotiate her way, forcing pedestrians to move into traffic lanes.
  • Driver weaves from one lane to the other constantly, trying to get ahead, often straddling two lanes and thereby blocking everyone behind him. Never did get any further ahead.
  • Numerous drivers making rights on reds without regard for pedestrians crossing with the light.
  • Driver races up Bay only to have to slam on the brakes half a block later, close to rear ending vehicle in front.
  • And so on and so forth.
The interesting thing was that these were all motorcycles, which is why I noticed them in the first place. Kind of hypocritical when you read all the complaints about bad "cage" drivers.

Psst.... you're not supposed to raise attention to bad/stupid/reckless acts committed by members of your own rider "tribe". Even when a rider goes down by their own stupidity, it's imperative to blame it all on the cagers. If you're not careful, you'll soon have people claiming that you don't even ride.

Hahah.. that was awesome!

That's okay, I barely want to be associated with human beings in general, much less a specific subset artificially created purely out of a single common factor.

bad habits in the car tend to come out in other vehicles too...

Wait a minute, turbo actually made a funny and didn't piss off the whole board:D Success!!!

I feel exactly the same way.

Hmm, maybe we should hang out? Become friends? Maybe form a club? Hahaha.

Welcome to the "I don't want to be a member of the tribe" tribe.

The biggest issue that I have, when commuting to downtown, is idiot car drivers. That's only because there are so many more cars than there are motorcycles.

I'm usually ok with the car-commuters when I ride downtown; they're just trying to get home, same as me. It's the friggin cabbies who think they own the road that I can't stand. I've had so many close calls with taxis that I don't trust any of them while riding now.

I was waiting to turn right on to Front near Union station the other day around 5pm. As usual, there was a solid stream of pedestrians so I was waiting for a gap. Impatient cabbie behind me honked & motioned me to go. I pointed to the full crosswalk & did the 'what do you want me to do?' shrug. Just as I pulled forward to get ready for a gap only big enough for a bike, he decided to pass me on the left & cut in front--nearly clipping me. The gap wasn't big enough for his car so we both had to sit there waiting anyway.

I let him go ahead just to get him away from me & he ended up cutting me off again a few blocks later to pick up a fare. Guess I shouldn't have been surprised...

I've got a problem with anyone, who does stupid and selfish things in order to advance through traffic. What, the rest of us don't want to get home too? If everyone paid attention to the rules of the road and basic common decency, then everyone would get home faster.

Yeah, for sure. What I meant was that I generally don't have problems with regular commuters since most of them know the drill and try to drive with respect for the rules of the road & other drivers. Obviously, there are a few pricks who feel entitled to ruin it for everyone else, but I like to think that for the most part, everyone tries to get along on the roads.

Seems to be the opposite with cabbies though; there are a few good ones, but they're far outnumbered by the aggressive, selfish ones. Guess that just comes with a job where time literally is money for them...

I'm finding a lot of people having problems with the concept of merging recently...if it's done properly and considerately then there's only a small slow down to traffic flow...but if someone races up the merge lane to butt into the other lane when there's not a space everything comes to a screetching halt. Some stupid woman tried this today only there wasn't any line up of traffic...she simply wanted to get ahead of me as she was obviously more important than me.

On a side note...I'm also seeing plenty of roundaboutaphobics ....people who think a roundabout is a 4-way stop instead of the traffic movement device it's supposed to be.

I find it amazing how many drivers are on their phones on the way home from work.
They leave 10 or 30 car lengths between them because they're too distracted and rush hour has slowed down even more because of this.

Racing down the merge lane and then forcing their way back in AFTER the merge lane has ended.

I constantly curse the people who let these arrogant pricks in. If other drivers didn't reward bad behaviour, then these selfish buggers wouldn't do it. A similar thing is when people cruise down the third lane on Lakeshore west, coming up to the ramp for The Gardiner at York, then poke their noses in to get ahead of people who patiently lined up for maybe 10 minutes. Some moron always lets them in.

Traffic was a parking lot downtown yesterday. Tons of crazy stuff. I saw a girl on a scooter on Bloor just before Bay decide to pass on the left and hug the center line into oncoming traffic. I'm not kidding. I've never seen anyone do that.

In her defense (loosely) It was ridiculously slow. It took me over an hour to get from Christie to Donlands, with all the delay between Avenue and Broadview. I literally could have walked, nay, strolled, there faster.

I dont excuse bad driving either, but the city cannot handle all the motorists sometimes and and it brings this idiocy out of people.
